    Spawn broke the record.

I don't think I want to learn to thread an 11 to 1 mainsheet.

Spawn got to the whitewater part.

And for those who survive the squall line, there's no water! I saw the lowest tide ever a couple of years ago. Looked like this: And more or less the same scene this morning: At least half a foot lower than the lowest I had previously seen. That concrete on the right is our boat ramp. A...

    Everglades Challenge 2022

This is more what I expect from EC weather. After the squall line came through yesterday, our 2.4's at the Sailing Center looked like this: And the 420's...

    Everglades Challenge 2022

If they were starting today instead of a week ago, they'd be facing much stronger headwinds followed by a dangerous squall line followed by temps in the upper 30's. And a nice tailwind. But I'd rather deal with the headwinds they saw than weather like today's. I think this is the first EC I've...

    Everglades Challenge 2022

Looks like the usual EC cold front is a week late. I expect high 30's here at dawn on Sunday, with the blasting winds and squall line between now and then. Nothing fixes becalming like a cold front. Nothing gets me off the water faster either.

There is if I'm going to be soaked for days by water that's below 80 degrees. So in my case, there is. Or that, I suppose, but it's really not that different. Either way, how am I supposed to take a pee through the Mirage Drive well?

    Everglades Challenge 2022

From a Florida Man perspective, below 80 degrees = bad weather. And I mean the air and the water. The humidity should also be 80, just to keep things easy. The drysuit requirement is one of the things that has impeded me from participating in this event. I'm pretty sure I could finish in my AI...

    Everglades Challenge 2022

Well, they got one nice day, though not as nice as forecast, especially for the paddlers. And that shift to the S did happen but I did not expect the number of dropouts that we've seen. Or "smart ones" as alanosaurus is calling them. It's not even cold this year! No violent passage of a cold...

Ah, that makes more sense. I've been impressed by some of the SUP efforts but keeping pace with the fastest sailboats seemed really, really impressive.

The trackers seem to break more often on boats that are trying for records. But yes, they did, and there's a nice pic on FB of Spawn some distance from CP2 and the crew doing the mud slog. Arriving at low tide is not recommended.

Swiped from FB, a shot of the legendary lawn flamingo, Fred, next to Spawn on the beach.

    Everglades Challenge 2022

Flamingo is apparently a female on an SUP and seems to be almost as fast as NateDog and Andy. Which is very, very fast for any paddling boat, let alone an SUP.

It'll be a great day today for all except the kayakers in the ditch that Moon mentioned. But the South wind is coming...

Okay? I think the Chamber of Commerce is going to be insulted. They ordered and appear to have gotten a perfect forecast for tomorrow.

For those who don't know, the "shortcut" he's talking about is a mini-version of the Nightmare. Not particularly navigable. Then dragging them all the way up the Peace River and Shell Creek and off the edge of the chart isn't enough? You have to do it by way of PGI? These people don't want to...

    Everglades Challenge 2022

We bought our AI's in 2007 and the first couple of AI's to try were nearly laughed off the beach. I already knew it was a cheater boat for this event. I believed in it so much that I talked the owners of the dealership where I worked into taking on the line and selling them. They lost a bunch of...

Solved. I have two Adventure Islands and you can borrow one. You'll have to think up some other reason!

Which checkpoint? I continue to hope to fly my drone around Stump Pass. Weathered out the last two years and this year isn't looking good. My brother has cancer and it's bad and I'm his primary caregiver.
