And tomorrow night should be really close. We’ve had nice fall weather here in the Gulf South.

I miss the used to be astronomy stuff.

Which also makes me miss MainsheetGirl.

Or maybe she’s up there, telling us to get the fuck over it already?

Watching a bit of the "blood moon eclipse" atm, and had to Google "totality" for the exact time of the event.

One might think that the word "totality" is akin to the word "unique", where a thing is either unique, or it is not.
Au contraire, mon frere.

Apparently, there are levels of totality.

Well, I was also treated to a couple of shoosting stars.

Tonight, half-Moon and bright Jupiter make a pretty pair. And tomorrow a closer pair, beautiful.

Catch Moon and Jupiter tonight, they’re practically holding hands. Very pretty.

And now it’s Moon and Mars, very close buddies rising in the East. Go outside!!

Now Mars no longer visible, it’s hidden behind the Moon, eclipsed. In a couple of hours it will emerge from the opposite side of the Moon, since the Moon is a bit “slower” than the planets and stars in our our solar system and galaxy.

The Moon “loses” about 10 degrees a day/night, relative to us and everything else In the sky.
Useful human trick—Your fist, with thumb on “top”, arm fully extended, describes an arc of about 10 degrees. Useful “ruler” for sky, or out on the water.
