I like to think American power entering that war at that time kept the Germans from continuing on with the bombings and worse, as at that moment the Brits weren’t ready to do more than play defense for their own account. And there was also the Good Friday/Belfast agreement, we were and are there for that. But yes I was just trying to defuse the situation with humor, so much for that.

There is a very visible difference between people with a dissenting opinion and vitriolic internet trolls who stir up shit for their personal gratification.

Some participants here have gone far, far beyond a knock at Manifest Destiny into direct attacks on individuals.  It doesn't bother me a single jot if you think that I'm fragile because I've decided that I'm done rolling in the mud with such people.

Two Legged is a 'she', not a 'he' (or a they/them AKAIK). I enjoy her participation on most sailing thread topics, but she does get stuck into some pretty rigid political positions IMHO. I'm more of a 'live and let live' kind of guy but its hard to resist a good political bun fight (I swore I wasn't going to read or post to this thread anymore, but I am weak...).

I don’t really care her gender or if she sticks to her principles.  Her attacks were unwarranted and crap like her posts belong in PA not cluttering up the boards where normal people can discuss things in a reasonable manner.

I remember attending a little brown bag lunch seminar at the local maritime museum about 15 years ago where the BIW PR dept. had some engineers explain the concept, design and execution of the class shortly after the contract had been announced.

Needless to say that unusual bow raised some questions about handling and sea keeping in large seas, but they were very clear about this class being strictly for littoral combat and support ops so our concerns about heavy weather characteristics were unfounded, and of course the hull form had been thoroughly tank tested. Interestingly, they never revealed the below the waterline profile and even having watched all 3 being built I don't think I ever caught a view of the lower hull while out of the water.

The original intention of this thread (if go read it) was clearly not to incite personal and political attacks.  It’s about a cool, crazy-looking ship that showed up in my neighbourhood, and it has an interesting backstory.  Period.  Overly-opinionated, “itchy-trigger-finger”, weak-willed people, as always, inevitably end up fucking up civil discussions.
