Pete used to steer from the wire by tucking the tiller extension under his chin when he was on the tack on which his arm was missing. Ross was nicknamed Boris (the spider) as he had to do main jib and kite. Those were the days of spinnakers and long kite poles. They were as competitive as. When they tipped over no problem getting up. We used to be in awe of Pete tacking. Come in off wire ,run across boat, grab tiller extension, clip on and jump out. It was a challenge with two arms. See you're still killing it too Phil

Boris came from Bald Ross if its said quickly. Name started by neighbour Michael Coxon (North Sails Sydney) when he was still at school. (Ross went bald early in life and wore a lifesaver's cap while sailing).

Ross managed main, jib and spinnaker (with two part pole) in the days before fixed bow poles and self tacking jibs, and when 16s had 4 people and spinnakers about 1/4 the size.

Both Peter and Ross are sailing hero's and good friends still.

Thanks for that Phil. Never knew that about Ross' nickname. But he certainly was Boris the spider handling all that. And they both sailed brilliantly
