Son lives in Brooklyn, and is experiencing a little moisture, as he just sent video of water pouring in through the light fixtures in the hallway of his apt building and the flooded gym.

Larry is out there stirring fish up in the Atlantic.  Looks to be powerful as well.  Good thing it shouldn't get anywhere near us.

Larry is now a cat 3 and is making a beeline for slightly NE of Bermuda.  Central pressure is 965mb and deepening, and he's intensifying.  Let's hope he doesn't budge left, else Bermuda will take a big hit.  I know everything there is built to a stringent hurricane-resistant code, but this might test it.  Not good.

EDIT: No possibility of loading up the car and bugging out, of course.

Ah, that bitch finally turned to the Norwest, now tracking about 310 True.

For too damn long when it didn't turn, it could have been steaming right for Floriduh.

Several more African waves are due to emerge.  Things just got real in the Atlantic.

Want to know how bad Ida was? Saw this early today - tip - when you live below sea level and the power is out in your area your toilet isn't going to flush.  Shit does not flow uphill.

The City of New Orleans is responding to impacts from Hurricane Ida. Widespread impacts include power outages, debris, and service interruptions. If you have evacuated out of New Orleans, we request that you DO NOT RETURN until further notice

Check the City website for current status of Hurricane Ida orders.  https://ready.nola.gov/home/

Realistically, further notice should come about 15-20 years in the future.

The levees held and I don't think Netherlands gets cat 4 storms.  Big problem? Just like Texas the grid is down although people are starting to get power back.  Hard to plan for that kind of wind sustained that long - amazing not seeing a lot of structure damage.  When I wrote hard that means expensive.

I vividly recall when Elle gave us a tour of N/O about ten or eleven years ago seeing dirty 'high tide' water lines like just 4 to 6 feet below some of the facia boards.....on two story houses. That's....a fuk ton of water.....
Bottom line, don't build a city below sea level!  I know you get that.

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (AP) — The entire shoreline of Southern California's Imperial Beach is closed to swimmers and surfers after sewage-contaminated runoff flowed north again from Mexico’s Tijuana River.
The closure announced Friday will be in place until testing shows the water is safe, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

“The stench was crazy, just terrible,” said Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina. “We’re just going into our round robin of endless openings and closures because of the residual sewage in the river.”
Hundreds of millions of gallons of toxic water has flowed north from Mexico over the past several decades.
San Diego officials have been pushing for a new system since 2019.
The EPA is also looking to expand concrete basins in the river valley that capture urban runoff in canyons along the border. The facilities were upgraded in 2010, but sewage and chemical-tainted flows continue to overwhelm their capacity.
