3rd in div 2. No need to talk me up podcast. How the fuck are you anyway mate?Really puts into perspective the efforts of LB in consistently finding that 2nd place Div 3 PHS in offshore races.

Doing pretty good Bro, busy with 2 kids who do rowing as a school sport, so no time for sailing. Miss those rum fueled discussions at the Glady Yachto. Older bloke would make a good mastman.3rd in div 2. No need to talk me up podcast. How the fuck are you anyway mate?
If only you had a crew big enough to afford that luxury. Last time I navigated S2H I did all 3 roles. That was a couple of years back.Sometimes it is easier to have 2 navigators, and a data person...
The main navigator is used to make all the crictial desicions at the big moments do the main routing, currents, waves, navigation hazards etc... and while the A navigator is sleeping the B navigator checks everything to make sure there is no major changes, keeps an eye on local weather stations, and watches the data to make sure the yacht is performing. Then you also have another Data person who is more focused on the numbers, logs when there are sail changes, new trimmers/helmsmen etc... normally on wet notes to be added to the data after the race.
and there are some other people holding ropes and yelling stuff too.
Upwind is their sweet spot and they don’t move fast enough or slam hard enough to wreck themselves. What is it with older s+s designs and hard windward conditions?
I thought we were interested in encouraging new players into our sport.begs the question what kind of retard hires pro’s to sail PHS?
Not after the start they don’t - that’s outside assistance. To the comment re - 2 people for data and one for naviguessing. Like it or not most of these guys have paid services aka a shore team to update and compare the latest models…

URM commentary was classic .. amazed they left sydney harbour with the crew self destructingrandom. said:Pros are those without enough money to buy a boat. It's more fun just to shaft the owner than to have others shaft you.
BTW anyone else hear the goings on on URM just before the start? Something about "we have already fucked up the start by not using the Code Zero!" and other things. Was that Waterhouse? No harmony and cooperation on that one.
Well, yeah. I thought the watch captains had the role of observing what was changing, and waking the navigator when the change became significant. That's certainly how I approached the role.If only you had a crew big enough to afford that luxury. Last time I navigated S2H I did all 3 roles. That was a couple of years back.
is it the potential damage damage and cost that stops crews practicing, or just laziness ?I didn't say anyone was stopping boats from training......I said (an stand by the fact) that clubs don't run races in uprange conditions. People don't choose to train in uprange conditions because...they'd rather not...and it's cold...and we might break stuff...and my crew (average age 55) don't really want to....
So my point is...people don't train for the conditions, so it's not surprising that when they're confronted with them, they're underprepared and things fuck up....like mains! (I've seen every kind of main fuck up, even on some supposedly well put together programs....including failure to untie sail gaskets when shaking out a reef...and doesn't that do wonders to a sail!)
Hardly any weekend warrior boats will have deliberately trained for uprange outside of a programmed race...fuck all few...(that's why there's mandated qualifying events) the vast majority rely on Hope....Hoping for an easy run south...or hoping that it'll be ok if it isn't. What we're witnessing is the results of that approach.
There's a $500K backstory to URM, but I'm not going to spill it here. As I said elsewhere, a very talented crew with fuck all big boat experience (OK, plenty of experience by a few people, but not among the ones who would probably have been tasked with matters like, for example, reefing the main).URM commentary was classic .. amazed they left sydney harbour with the crew self destructing
There must have been lots of boats on the start line with crew that have not sailed together before, and have little training the last months, a bit rusty and not with clear commandolines and responsibilities.URM commentary was classic .. amazed they left sydney harbour with the crew self destructing
