The old unofficial rule was landing anywhere from the  St Helens pub south  counted as one.

Not so much now.

but that was from when Cascade was not sold on the mainland.

So while the world is dying under the load of humanity, we are fixated on a stupid fucking boat race between white elitist egotistical first world fuckwits.
Yep, it takes our minds off everything else they have fucked up.

Probably a more accurate count would be how many QLD’s have you attended and don’t remember how you got back to the boat
Mate, I attended the first QLD.  Tony Cable sailed with us that year, and we all hid around the corner while he went into the bar (pretty early in the day - maybe 1000).  The octogenarian bartender asked TC "what'll it be?" and Tony replied "Three thousand beers thanks - and keep it coming!" and we all flocked in.  Oh yeah - that maybe the time I didn't make it back to the boat and my mates found me asleep in Salamanca Place in the morning.  Great times!

(Can't recall the year - 1968 or '69? Fuck, my head hurts just thinking about it)

Hi Recidivist

where you {on ta r for now}Fare the well?

i was on Weatherly with Cable’s partner in crime  Dawso. This nearly 17 year old was “mentored” by both of them and said “come with us” Had the first beer of the day with all the shakeys on the the other side of the bar who nearly shit themselves when Cable ordered.! Good times

My dear late Dad, did the '69 Hobart. They finished last across the line getting there on NYE, being last the boat all crew received a 4/5 liter bottle of Grants Whiskey. He did the delivery back to Brisbane and by the time he got here there was not much left in the the huge bottle of Grants and he had a beard. Wasn't the first or last time Mum was not impressed about stuff he did boating,

I'm sinking that the IJ are scrabbling to find a way out of this with dignity.
Celestial gets a penalty 1 second less than would be required to put them behind Itchy on corrected time.

Edit: this is what I think should happen!

The hearing was scheduled for 1800 LT but no news or adjustments in standings on the race website.
I guess people there are currently more interested in getting on the piss than the outcome of a protest that doesn't concern them or their final placing.

I've never sailed on a TP52 or a fake TP52, but I can imagine that at speed it is noisy as hell and if everyone was to be on deck, then you would not hear a call coming in.

Maybe the CYCA needs to mandate all boats be fitted with a RAM in the cockpit.

Having heard several DSC distress alarms I'm sure that Celestial would have heard and responded to such an event without the need for a RAM or a person below.

The protest against Celestial should be dismissed.

But, that won't be how the PC will work. Time for popcorn.
I would agree with you, any carbon boat is noisy as hell.

It should also be remembered that there is a difference between "listening" as in listening watch and "hearing".

Perhaps in future years 34 should read including a speaker in the cockpit

I completely agree, even with an engine revving a VHF DSC emergency 'sqauking' is impossible not to hear while often a voice transmission reception is virtually impossible.

As appears clear, as soon as a Celestial crew member spotted a flare they made things very quiet on board and tried to communicate with the nearest yacht (Ichi Ban) so they could hardly be accused of ignoring what what going on.

Well looks like they have given IB redress and dinged Celestial. IB now showing #1 on IRC. Will be interesting to hear what happened.

Side note - why does Sidewinder not appear in TH IRC?
