Fully expected Oilers to tie it in the final seconds then win in the first minute of OT.

Difficult to understand how two teams demonstrating no defense whatsoever can make it this far.

Sagelike prediction there Chester.

The tried and true punt in the Cup run is that the team with the best goalie has the best chance to bring hope the Cup. Igor Shesterkin is that guy. Congrats.

I do agree with you though, defense is a better strategy. But when faced with this year's Oilers, what other option is there? Edmonton forces those turnovers, they have shown they can do it on demand with any Western team. It might not work against the Rangers, they'll just grind them down. But it could work against Tampa, finally bring a Cup back to Canada?

The Avs though, they are going to get turned by the Oil, it's impossible to avoid as they transition away from just mindlessly crashing the net, so why not risk it and play Edmonton's game, and risk the turnovers that Edmonton is going to get anyway? This series is better than anything I have seen in the post yet, it's pulling viewers from the NBA finals, which hasn't happened since the lockout. And Edmonton-Avs? That's straight up salary-cap parity, while the NBA is stuck with yet another variation of Golden State and Celtics. No offense to either fans, but it's a snoozefest; starts both teams at a hundred and let them play for 10 minutes, same result, more often than not.

Anyway, Shesterkin had nearly 40 saves yesterday. Tampa kept up a great pace, and kept hitting his wall.

of course i didn' know but both teams can pour it in.

wow to game two!  Did not see that coming.  Its not that the Oilers are going home down two, it's that they got OWNED completely and totally in game two.  Th Avs continued to score, they completely neutralised McDavid and Drisidl and the Oilers made really bad plays that the Avs turned into goals!  OWNED.  That the sorta thing that screws with your team's heads.

Kadri is out for the series, maybe the rest of the post ...

For some reason, YouTube has flagged Kane's hit as "adult content." But it's Kane with a cross check at the boards, he lifts his stick and hits Kadri in his back. The Avs seem disciplined, though I'm not sure if discipline is going to be enough to score regularly on Shesterkin, if it comes to that.

i wonder if they will revisit the kadri hit and punish Kane with a suspension?  that's too bad as Naz was having his best, most impactful season ever.  is it irony or karma that sees Naz getting hurt by a bad hit after him being suspended for bad hits in two (3?) previous playoffs?

Kane was all "what??"....uumm, dude you crosschecked straight down into the boards from 3 feet out, there is no "what?"

well, staved off "we're fucked" anyway
Perhaps a better approach whenever shooting against Shesterkin is just to assume being fucked and then crash the net and hope for the best. Tampa came back on the power play, on a full-strength play from the boards, Shesty seems impenetrable.

Bolts - Rangers, best series, may even be better then the potential final...

We get to see the two best goalies going at it.....

Hope it goes 7.

Cheap shot injuries, like that Kane hit from behind, 3 feet from the boards, causing any injury should have the hitter sitting at least until the injured player is able to play again, regardless of length of time.

You'll see those cheap and very dangerous hits from behind, disappear really quick.

Me either. Hate to say but the Aves look tough to beat. Of course, a good goaltender and a tight D might slow them up.
I just found out from your post. My son's baseball game went late and I was late getting home. I saw them trailing by two goals late in the third and figured they would bring it back here. I wanted that too, justice for my love of the Oilers from before the Nordiques came to Colorado.

Usually, an offense-heavy team like the Avs with three nearly unstoppable lines would lose the Cup to a goalie like Shesty, but the era of digital video is here, and the Avs attack need to study the patterns of only one goalie. The best goalie in the league, but still just one goalie. As soon as the Rangers move past Tampa, assuming that actually happens, Shesty will have a couple days of rest while he has to take a crash course of digital video on nine potent Avs attackers. He'll be up against a rested team and it might be too much for him to continue to stand on his head like that.

And Tampa would be three games back now if not for the good fortune of that well-placed power play.

The goaltenders are there, D not so much.  Lets see how ether team handles 40+ shots/night...   LOL..  I 95 bunch are in for a rude awakening..  :)

Av's in 5....  Hope, but not 100% they can get both at home.  Both on the road are practically guaranteed based on this run.  Don't care that the bolts have the experience, Av's have "The Look", and Aint gonna be denied...  Would love to sweep a team from FL to win again, but more hockey = More better....  Only prob is the goaltending.  Sackic bet that he did not need to pay a goalie because the D core is so good.  Keumpfer is at best a high end 2nd stringer and Frainkie, though tough in a pinch, aint going to steal one.  We shall find out...  If they can continue to get production from all 4 lines, well..... The Flames coach said it best "it's gonna be a waste of 7 days"

Av's

there is still the little matter of the east final...I like what the rangers have done but man, the lightning are an intact dynastic team: all world goalie, Hedman is an historic talent on D, upfront talent that stands with the best...I think they are going back to the final for the 3rd straight time.
