I think this was how and what the militia aka protestors thought they were doing... righting a stolen election wrong. Lack of leadership left them hanging out to dry but we've heard about at least the one van in nearby VA with a weapons cache presumably for an occupation.

Well, "The Militia" is granted all-knowing wisdom and insight by God and the Founding Fathers, don't you know? It's impossible to manipulate "The Militia".

Actually, I monitor my BP pretty often and my damned cuff always reads high by about 15 points. Whenever I go to my PCP, she takes it and it's high-"ish" but still fine.

While I rant, I know full well that nothing is going to change. 40% of the country is in love with their weaponry. A huge proportion of the country knows in their heart of hearts that the boogieman is coming and they have to be prepared. Those people vote, as they should. So nothing is going to change. The obvious solution to stop the killing will never be implemented and we will just keep shouting at each other until....slowly....something in the culture changes.

In the current climate for the last 10-15 years or so - I think a lot of owners are laying low and answering no to those polls for a lot of reasons. Just remember the polls in Oct of 2016 had Hillary as the runaway winner. I don't know what the number is, but I think it's quite a bit higher than 33%.

Perhaps the best way to get Republicans to try to keep guns out of kids’ hands eoukd be to start a government program where kids are REQUIRED to carry loaded guns to school and guns are GIVEN to kids who cant afford guns.

unless the children in the usa are completely different to the kids here .. because here its not very uncommon for whole classes of kids to deliberately bate teachers they dont like or think are vulnerable

The two ways to change all this are spelled out clearly in the Constitution. Bitching on the internet is not one of them unfortunately: "Article V of the Constitution provides two ways to propose amendments to the document. Amendments may be proposed either by the Congress, through a joint resolution passed by a two-thirds vote, or by a convention called by Congress in response to applications from two-thirds of the state legislatures."

Think big but act close to home. What seems possible, maybe, is getting the populace behind an amendment to the 5th to state that national referendums be allowed.

There is a third way. Elect senators that approve justices that decide to read both parts of 2A, also article 1 sec 8 of the main body, and decide they are all part of the same document voted on at the same time. Judges are political instruments appointed by politicians for party reasons. Their interpitation of the constitution is merely a political statement with ramifications.
