26ft trimaran QLD

How well does the electric go?
Its only 12 v 50 pound thrust !!!It’s good For coming and going from the beach etc really simple to use also great for motor sailing Getting In and  out of marinas etc.. 3 knots  boat speed . It will never get the boat off a  lea  shore  or out of trouble And anything above about 15 kn but there is certainly potential the correct way to do it would be just electric power head something like a 8 hp Extra long Yamaha .So yeah I haven’t given up on the idea of no fuel on board but for now the good old Chrysler is a good thing

Awesome Skull

A couple things I would do... For what it's worth

I would add a small prodder for some light air sails. maybe a fold up one

I would find a way to tighten up my nets... I hate sagging nets and they make life hard getting around on

i would add a small hard deck at the rear from the ama (float) to the rear of the cockpit where you now have nets and then remove the cockpit sides.... It will open you cockpit space to double and won't hurt performance... Pick is Jason's Trispirit for effect

Oh and add a stripper pole inside

Hey Phil.

Hey Phil.

Yes will be doing all of the above Including stripper pole LOL. I have used spirit as an inspiration all along great boat  and a great couple 2 .

Already have cockpit sides marked out To cut And the best part is the piece I remove becomes the  seat on the opposite side .

Cockpit seats will be at the current transom height which puts it about halfway up that rear beam so I little bit of protection from the rear beam.

Just have to stare at it for a few more days before I do the cutting make sure I’ve got it right in my head first lol ...

Regarding the prodder  just sizing up some spinnakers now and deciding whether to add diamonds and remove the lowers Or add a baby stay that will also give the board some protection from sheets etc getting hooked up having a lot of trouble getting pre bend in mast It  wants to bend the wrong way

One thing I’m finding interesting is the ability to make the boat self steer by raising and lowering the rudder.1 inch up ore down to change from Lee Helm to whether helm And when you get the sweet spot she will track along beautifully.

I’m finding the flatbottom not so great for working up wind but awesome of the wind  as expected

Boat is coming along nicely - good on you !         B) ;)

What exactly are your findings going upwind ?

Peter
G’day Peter yeah just the slamming!!!   slams hard into waves. Being so light  she’s very Waight sensitive ,,, Getting weight forward certainly helps by keeping the bow  down But that’s very hard to do when your in the cockpit  ... Some good looking crew up the front James Wharram  style would be to go And should have that sorted by the Bay to Bay lol

Wow, prompt reply there Dave !

Expected you to say slamming - but didn't want to be putting words in your mouth

Maybe some xps foam & fibreglass up front will do the trick ?    just a very light glass job until you deign it to be right ?

Females look good,  but...... soon they are going to want to be back in the cockpit & suggesting that YOU get up the front.....

G’day everyone living  on board a couple of weeks now and just added 230 w solar with Victor on blue controller . So that should cover 40 L fridge some phone chargers for the iPad  nav and LED lights . Next will be BCF depth  sounder  .

Have found a single seat kayak to be a  awesome tender And super easy stowed  on this boat   . Best $250 Spent so far

G’day everyone boat is going great as expected it’s  fast ...I have added a prodder And I’m running Spinniker off that . Now here’s my problem the current Rudder setup is great at low speed but  Useless at high-speed .... it is spectacular throwing a great big rooster tail as it ventilates cavitates and throws bubbles out the back everywhere !!!!

I think most of my problem is the fittings mounting bracket etc are in the water When the Rudder is at its lowest position as the boat starts planing the surface area of the Rudder reduces down to about 40 cm 50 cm at best . !!!

I have found a complete assembly Rudder Rudder box off a blazer 23 mono  dagger board style 1.5 m long would like opinions on whether this is going to fix the problem I’m 90% sure it will the box and everything but will be well clear of the water and in theory With a 700 high transom I should be getting at least 800 of Rudder in the water !!!!

The foil shape and size of the new Rudder Is very similar to what I have just heaps  longer !!!

Thoughts please good bad indifferent this boat is 30 years old and I think the thinking at the time was maybe it wasn’t going to perform as well as it does and Rudder is a low-speed Rudder on a high-speed boat

Rudders are a balancing act and the angle here on the new rudder will be critical to get right but try it for sure.... the fact that you can adjust the length is great.... your old one does look a bit short...

Good luck

GDay mate ,,,, no BAY TO BAY this weekend and a perfect 10 to 15 SW  .....  grrrrr !!!!

Yep new rudder will be shim adjustable faward and aft to balance it up ... it’s of a blazer 23 sports boat so shape should be ok and simple to make a new   High speed one if needed.... ore reshape bottom 1/2  ....the  F24 /28 ect are nice but to much $$$$$$$

Sorry to rain on your parade again but if you have a multihull that does above 10 upwind and above 15 downwind that rudder will fold firstly the alloy box (unless it is stainless hard to tell) and if you beef that up the blade will fold. Gudgeons too weak also. The Blazer falls over so the blade takes a fraction of the load our boats take. A Farrier type box and blade is not too hard to build. There is a chance you could split that blade to put a big carbon stringer across the blade down the thickest part  of the foil, then wrap in a few layers of biax carbon then fair it as the shape is not too bad. Angle forward should be about 8 degrees.

PM me I might be able to find you come specs for a build.

Thanks plywood boy this kind of feedback is exactly what this site is for I was too busy looking at foil shapes and practicality and how cool it was gonna look on the back of my boat LOL to even consider whether it was strong enough !!!!

At one point I considered using the top half of my section and fabricating a kick up style bottom section for it Out of ply
