You are right, he has an american paspoort, a Dutch name though.
He's not the only dutchman who migrated to the US of A.

One of the first four Nonsuch 30s was built with a rotating mast. The idea did not catch on since no others followed. The wishbone rig offered more advantages than the rotator.

Randy invented a 360 degree rotating wing mast in the mid 80s, actually built a full size version and raced it in the Everglades challenge. The rig is also used on the 52’ Eagle catamaran.
The sail can be reefed, but usually it can just be allowed to weathervane in squalls, even extreme thunderstorms.
Obviously, dramatically lighter, therefore cheaper, and faster than a seemingly simple tube.

Middle pic is an interesting collection of recycled bits.
I'm guessing an old heavily modified Tornado Hull, two chopped windsurfer boards and an F16 mast, with possible windsurfer mast tubes for the rack assembly? Love it.
Warrants a different thread but - It would be cool to see some close up pics of his latest systems on this craft.
