I've been waiting for this regatta for ages, and it's shaping up to be one hell of an event... Half of the Aussie fleet flew over today to get a head start on unpacking and setting up the boats, and the other half is coming in tomorrow early to have a bit of a practice sail. The forecast for the next few days is looking pretty good, with 20 knots, sunshine, and a half meter swell, which will be a refreshing change from what Sydney has on offer at the moment ;)

I think the team to beat this year will be Nick Press and Yabs on Dimension Polyant or Alex Vallings and Lyn Holland in Nuplex Composites. That being said there will be really good matchups all the way through the fleet as the kiwis and Aussies teams are quite evenly matched.

20 knots of breeze results in 3 dismastings

Day 2 of the Inters was sailed in 20 knots of breeze, and with a number of boats opting for their big rigs (which forced the leaders to follow suit), the end result was 3 rigs dismastings and some interesting results, with those teams who took the more conservative approach doing best.

Heat 2 Results:

1st – Nuplex (NZ) – Alex Vallings

2nd – Garde (AUS) – Brett Hobson

3rd – Gemmell Sails (AUS) – Ben Gemmell

4th – Little Bus (NZ) – Chris Reid

5th – Dimension Polyant (AUS) – Nick Press

Heat 3 Results:

1st – Little Bus (NZ) – Chris Reid

2nd – Design Source (NZ) – Paul MacIntosh

3rd – Gemmell Sails (AUS) – Ben Gemmell

4th – Dimension Polyant (AUS) – Nick Press

5th – Nice Action Too (NZ) – Hamish Hey

This leaves Dimension Polyant - AUS (Nick Press & Brad Yabsley) in the lead overall with 10 pts, with Nice Action Too – NZ (Hamish Hey & Mick Candy in 2nd with 14 pts. However there are currently 3 boats tied in 3rd with 15 pts each, and a further 2 boats in joint 4th with just 16 pts each, so it’s all still wide open at this point.

Tomorrow is a lay day.

Excellent work!

What about the the underall miners? I see Corrie adorned in the vid. Just a daily winner or the series underall champ?
