I recently watched a docu-drama on Watergate.

Those Republicans were an entirely different species than the craven scum who currently use the title.

Most of them would qualify as Dem's nowadays. They certainly wouldn't have anything to do with something like Trump.

Even if he was merely a congressman or senator they would ostracize him like they eventually did with McCarthy.

Nixon's support by Republicans was neither as universal nor as craven as Trump's support.

Nixon went behind a lot of backs to suck in money, and built a supposedly-but-not-really-secret "slush fund" that he used to help his friends and used it to threaten those he found less loyal. A lot of Congresscritters did not like being threatened by him.

Contrast that to their reaction to being threatened by Trump... cowering before a coward.

It's disgusting to me that these people have managed to take over my country.

They were pretty craven though. Ford supported Nixon until he was unsupportable and then pardoned him.
