It's a volunteer effort, they deserve kudos, there's nothing else to take.

I like this feature :)

Nice job, all of you - for those who don't know, a team of volunteers including Rennmaus, Stingray, and a pile of others spent some serious time putting the site together and filling it with content. Very, very cool.

It is a mere pamphlet of hyperlinks to useless infomation. Completely devoid of functionality - it doesn't permit even the basics of allowing team members to interact with the site to advance the project.

Where is the membership function? I would like to post a video - how? I'd like to link up an important related story for all members to enjoy - where? I'd like to see some member photos. I'd like to send private e-mails to others - how do I find their addresses? I'd like to join a team committee - Link? I like to see news only available to registered members. I'd like to see the various blogs of important team members. I'd like to add an imporant event to the Team calendar - how do I post that? I'd like to post a poll for all members to see/participate - where on that site can one post up a poll?

That site has no functionality - just a bunch of silly hyperlinks.

Here is a real site with function. OK - so there is no pretty on it yet; but look closely at the underlying functionality. It has a high power database which accommodates user authorization to permit VERY useful contribution and interaction from team members. Do the pretty later - consider how it works. Log-in at various levels to see the changes in performance for each.

Another Anarchy Challenge Site

Any comments from the peanut gallery?

I think both sites are decent, but could be great if worked into one. The graphical side of anarchychallenge.com (along with the new reports, links etc.) should be merged with the "potentials" of anarchychallenge.org. Well done to all of you for your hard work. Squid, I think a better way of going about this, instead of sounding like, as Dramling says, a jackass, would have been to offer some suggestions, not tell them the site is crap. Maybe you could offer to join the volunteer team...just a though. Anyways, that's my two cents.

Exellent work both sites... good stuff

One by a committee of established folk taking some months

and one by a mavericK loud mouth who knocked it up in a couple of days....

so we have one ESTABLISHMENT site.. a pro-US challenge that hates Alinghi (a bit irrelevant now that Barker has made them look like idiots in front of world)

and a loner with a vision and the go to do!

I'm sure someone like me would be more than welcome in the maverick camp.. make it bug..

An Anarchy site for the Anarchy Challenge.. brill as

Squid I hope your just kicking shit up for the sake of it... Your obviously in the anti-joomla camp but seriously - you name one bit of functionality on your site that the .com folk couldnt build into the official site with very little effort and ill personaly mail you a cookie for your trouble.

Question regarding the schedule shown on the website:

Who is sailing on the boat in Valencia in July (5 months away)? Flights are going to expensive to book if you wait much longer

Oh yeah, almost forgot, this is a really bad idea.

All what you describe are functionality that are available on Joomla ! And guess what, this is what the site is build with. So this is just a matter of time before everything gets activated.

Some of that 'hard-core' functionality Squid refers to, like membership, committees and calendars are definitely going to get important as this moves forward.

There are advantages to leveraging his roll-your-own-code approach; and also advantages to using whatever pre-built/tested Joomla modules may be available to us. There are also disadvantages to each.

Since Squid is out in front on this part of the effort it makes sense to encourage him, fully, unless/until such time as someone can point to better solutions for that capability.

I wish Squid were willing to get on board the dot-com, suck it up and learn to use Joomla modules in the manner they are designed for, and help the 'official' effort by creating a tighter integration with the existing site, using that existing infrastructure. As you suggest, there's probably a lot we can build in, and we do already plan to see what's available in those areas. But so far he is more inclined to roll his own, is out in front, and obviously he has every right to do that. We've talked about it, I understand his perspective.

A little competition is good on finding solutions to this stuff, but ultimately they should complement one another if crunch time happens. The bottom-line intentions are good, with anyone involved in the Anarchy Challenge effort, even just criticisms, suggestions and cheerleading.
