Promising to be the most accessible and viewed AC ever...

Well I like this bit

Every matches and racing of the 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada will be streamed live on Youtube, Facebook and americascup.com in almost every country around the world.

because it has removed the caveat relating to where they have sold the broadcasting rights. But I'm still not clear whether they will cover the Christmas regatta in this way

(And I'm unimpressed with the standard of English for a press release)

Let’s hope we can tune in live on YouTube from wherever we are around the globe and not subject to local tv paywalls. Dammed if I am going to pay for a SKY sports package just to watch a few ACraces and not the endless football related shite ;)

WEST4MEDIA SAILS TO THE AMERICA'S CUP

In spring 2021, the America's Cup - the oldest regatta in the world - sets course for Auckland, New Zealand. In an international tender, we in the team with Riedel Communications prevailed against major competition. Together we were able to convince with a technically and content-wise innovative concept. For the implementation of this Herculean task, the new production company "circle-o" has now been founded, based in Vienna.

For the America's Cup, circle-o is developing many technical innovations that promise a whole new experience of the major sports event. It doesn't start in 2021, but in 2019 with the "America's Cup World Series". A total of 8 regattas in Europe, USA and Asia will be produced by us until the final.

The America's Cup is one of the greatest sporting events in the world. It is comparable to the Super Bowl, a soccer World Cup final or Formula 1. As far as the complexity of the TV broadcast is concerned, the task is even more difficult.
WEST4MEDIA and Riedel Communications have together over 60 years of experience with TV LIVE productions. As specialists in the field of camera technology, broadcast production, content and communication, Riedel Communications and WEST4MEDIA are responsible for major sporting events such as Formula 1, Olympic Games, Red Bull Air Races or the Stratos jump. A total of six Emmy Awards demonstrate success and know-how in this segment.

The audience can look forward to unconventional approaches and impressive pictures.

The America's Cup is a sailing regatta that was first held in 1851. The boats of two yacht clubs compete against each other in several races. At the America's Cup 36, the defending champion from New Zealand will fight the challenger who will be wanted over the next three years. The defending champion has home rights. That is why Auckland will be sailing in 2021.

Super-fun audio, worth a listen.
Ian, without question, is the original Energiser Bunny!

I first met him in '95 in San Diego, along with my American-born son who'd just graduated college.  Ian and the ARL guys were installed in rooms down the hall in the hotel where we stayed. This was ARL's first essay into sailing graphics for TV.  Son started volunteering, then joined ARL and went back to NZ with the team. He's still in NZ.

Talking about his company's first graphic work tracking Cup boats for TVNZ,  Ian recalls pitching their services to a room full of executive suits, only to be told it was impossible to do, and most certainly not in the time available.  His instant and indignant response: "I have boys who can do this!"

They could and they did.

Scotty Stevenson to call AC TV coverage?? WTF!! He barely knows anything about rugby which he's been calling since he was a little girl!!

Why don't they bring in some guest commentators from the UK and US as a nice gesture to their Challengers?
Saw in a North newsletter yesterday that Ken Read is coming to Auckland to do AC television commentary. Knows his stuff, obviously. Nice relaxed style.  The article did not state who he will be commentating for.

That's good news - he'll complement Lester nicely if he gets the TVNZ gig although with the different broadcasters involved, we might get the option of different commentators. Freddy Carr was great value in BDA as well when BAR were knocked out..

Worse than Scotty will be having to endure Toni Street at least Jesse Tuke who has quite a few clues will be reporting from on the water.

I expect the World Feed with Ken Read (Reed ?) and cohosts will be the best, and widely available online from everywhere.

Am curious about if the new company will be able to reach or maybe even exceed Stan Honey’s LiveLine technology, that was very impressive considering it was developed to be effective even from moving heli’s.

If I read this correctly the TVNZ generated viewing will be "before and after" stuff and fluff.

"Each race day will kick off on TVNZ 1 an hour prior to the starting horn with insights, interviews, weather reports and news.
"Following the build-up, TVNZ will broadcast the world feed with data and graphic information for every event, along with a world-class commentary team."

Ken's a decent commentator - and a great guy! - but they really hold him back by making him explain absolutely everything. The amount of times he stumbled through trying to describe VMG in a unique way last cycle was ridiculous...
