At least the NBCSN broadcast had no commercials during the races this time. Unlike Bermuda where they would cut to a commercial right at critical parts of the race and you missed key moments.
True. But the time delay and geoblocking have got to go.

Agree that different camera angles and displays are needed. Since I usually had to watch DVR, with the crew mostly invisible and tactics not remarkrd on  fast forwarding through many legs didn't detract much (could always go back to see the interesting bits).

Geoblocking sucked, but easy to work around. Hydraulic noises that are easy to filter out, got the wife bitching at me to turn the broadcast off. Headphones solved that problem, but now my focus was on the hydraulic screeching, so hard to hear anything else (other than Kenny going on over and over again about how port entry wins ever race). So the alcohol was easy. Sorry about the rant. But I did like

For a pissed guy who gets his merds wixed...
I understood that instantly.

Somewhere (on one of the Behind The Scenes videos?) I saw that they were working hard on that issue through the Cup, and said that it even affects the crew comms on Te Rehutai.

More time on the water with commentary crew of two. (Example Chris Law And PJM in 2000)

Less time in the Viaduct with people who have never been in a boat talking to others that have not been in a boat.

Dream team PJ Montgomery and Nathan Outridge on North Star.

Studio host Jono Mcbeath. With Peter Lester, Dean Barker, and guest apperences.

Nate yes, but sadly PJ seems to have lost a few of his marbles.

After I bitched about it here :). Seriously, it is easy to fix. Crew wear mics, put a mic by the traveler to drive a matched filter to cancel the boat sounds, giving priority to the crew sounds. Hire me for six weeks next time and I will fix it.

PJ couldn’t even get his on stage rehearsed bits right.

He’s never been any good, putting aside his ability to read out crew names badly.

PJ was good once, but those days are long gone.

I felt really sorry for him as he fumbled and struggled through the fairly simple act of reading from a script in his hands.

There has been some great AC commentators over the years. One of the best I think is Jimmy Spithill. His commentary during the match in Valencia was great! Otherwise, Ed Baird was great in 2003, absolutely impartial, technically knowledgeable, and easy to listen to.

The problem is, there aren't many champion foiling sailors around, and the ones who are have generally been snapped up by the teams, so aren't available for commentary until they've been eliminated from the competition. Outteridge did a fantastic job, but I'm picking he'll be part of the next event.

Pete Lester is okay, but hugely biased. PJ is past his best, and should stick to the Newstalk ZB play by play.

Maybe Ed Baird might be okay.

Geo restrictions are pretty frustrating, at least for US residents smart enough to not have cable tv.

I for one like the noises. I see them as akin to the grinding sounds on displacement boats or engine sounds in motorsport - lends character to the onboards.

With respect to all the "geoblocking is bad but easy to work around" comments...true for many of the motivated. But what kind of "world event" expects its viewers to step over even low level hoops to watch? Then wonders why nobody wants to buy ad time?  Why casual viewers don't bother?

Yep. I got several friends to watch this year on NBCSN.  But on the last fucking day NBC delayed coverage for 2.5 hours in order to show some random motocross racing.   My friends couldn't be bothered to figure out how to VPN and broadcast to their TV.

When it was on TV and live, they watched. But even the smallest hurdle was too much.  I suspect this is true of all casual spectators.
