TNZ wanted an attention grabbing, non-AC side-show with the AC40 and the "you must pay-to-play" mandate for all teams. Looks like they are getting one.

Shaping up to be another "remember when ____ happened" bump in the chase for the poison chalice.
Say how is that land speed record thing going, anyway? Must be pretty spectacular. Oh wait...

Truly, women are sailing around the world in rather large waves. If they "wouldnt be allowed" to sail in conditions that tanked the AC40 (drone?), there is something wrong somewhere."auto
Maybe the "auto" features coul;d do with some tweaking.

Funny.

But a counter to that is in how they were not using the AP (which may have done a better job in that moment) and in how the Women and Youth may not have been allowed to race in a sea swell that big anyway.

To add a 'bow ring' and some 'longitudinals' (and maybe some counterweight aft to maintain balance) will hopefully not add too much weight, changing for example their required lift-out speed; maybe it will be minimal.
Probably won't need a counter weight, the fact the boat pitchpoled following the rudder foil coming unstuck suggests they're running some downforce and that surface!

They could well have had a lot of downforce on the rudder foil, increasing the force of the impact when it got loose. With additional weight in the bow, if that happens, they may need to use even more.

In SailGP they use downforce in the windward rudder to improve RM but they limited how much you can get out of it, for safety reasons.

@shebeen They do have the right to change the AC40 rule (e.g. to allow strengthening), But Ineos can just say no to NZ allowing themselves another AC40 can't they. Doesn't matter what the others think.

Lets face it, can you see NZ changing the rules if it had been Ineos breaking their LEQ12?

Its a no from me
So far, there are no, Rules.

I certainly don't know for sure however I would expect that the AC-40's would fall under the same arbitration/ technical committee as their bigger sisters. I would hope that TNZ can't just change the rules to say well we've broken our LEQ12 so we'll just substitute another until it's fixed!
That must be a very tempting option for, ETNZ right now. We'll have to wait and see if GD is really the prick many here suggest. I hope he disappoints them!

An option they make take, is to jury-rig fix the broken AC40/LEQ12 without waiting for the rest of the process, to be able to keep testing. And maybe try force the other teams to wait for the new design?

Okay, found the rumor I was looking for about AC40 delivery order:

Hull 1 - TNZ
Hull 2 - Ineos
Hull 3 - TNZ
Hull 4 - Alinghi
Hull 5 - Alinghi
Hull 6 - LR
Hull 7 - American Magic
Hull 8 - American Magic
Hull 9 - Spanish Youth and Women's team.
Hull 10- Possibly if Spanish are getting two, one for the youth and one for the women's team.

^ It would suggest ETNZ, Alinghi and AM (two-boat buyers) are counting on the AC40 more than Ineos and LR are - both of whom have launched custom LEQ12's.

AC40 was NOT autopilot controlled at time of pitchpole, Clew.

I'm pretty sure INEOS are getting two AC40s so this list may not be totally accurate

or another way of reading that delivery list is AM are saying "Yeah look we'll take 2, but we're happy testing full scale and really don't need them until later on, so don't rush ours"! :)
Or the more accurate way. "We struggled to get funding, so we can't afford to develop our own LEQ12, even though the same struggles mean we wee last to enter so are at the bottom of the list. Which means we will need a second AC40 to at least test some foils"

Don't suppose the rumour says what the quoted/indicative/promised dates are for each of those deliveries?
