How many races did AM win in the Prada Cup AC36 with all that speed and stability? Zero...zilch...nought...the big doughnut. They did make a successful tilt at going down the mine though. Also I'm happy i jogged your memory.

What I'm getting at here is that your analysis is not to be taken seriously as you don't seem to get anything correct.
i believe that is the impression smakkie is trying to give ..... to cover his arse while his shit is in the fan!

Well Phil, the problem you have is that everything I said is true.

AM is the fastest AC75 on the planet. And it’s hard to win races when that AC75 is hovering just above the ocean floor. Why? Because, like the AC40, the AC75 is a horribly unstable boat in anything but old lady conditions as shown by AM - and ETNZ - and INEOS - and LRPP. It simple can’t handle speed and control.

Again, for those of you that want to rewrite history:

That was a proper spanking. I’m sure Phil is happy you jogged his memory.
That was great race.

Watch and weep - ETNZ should have had this one, despite the onboard issues.

I think A.M. would have won that heat against Italy if they would have rounded the mark with both boards down. The rudder alone can not hold very well in a breeze during a mark rounding.

The Sardinia regional government has allocated 6.1M€ for the Cagliari ACWS (October 2023?)
Yes, and with the possibility that it may be postponed for in the spring of '24, which opens up at least the possibility it would instead feature newly-splashed AC75s.

Err... what... ?

If anything ETNZ Te Aihe was optimised for more breeze and struggled a bit in the lighter air in the AC final, compounded by some lack of race fitness by the team with a relatively new boat, as can happen when being the defender.

But as soon as there was a bit more breeze the boat lit up and they were gone, at times sailing several knots faster with the same or better VMG - the sheer raw performance difference was enormous.

If anyone was lucky it was Luna Rossa, because if there was 15kn plus everyday ETNZ could possibly have won every single race, thoroughly embarrassing the Italians.

So, you may well be remembering incorrectly...
The lack of breeze in the finals was the real tragedy of AC36 as we missed the opportunity to see quite how fast ETNZ was. In a recent interview with Tuke he was asked what his fastest sustained sailing speed was. His answer was "mid fifties" and was pretty clearly referring to Te Rehutai

Yes, and a lack of breeze killed AM in many of its races. They had control problems and were never the same after the crash.

That's right, we never saw the true potential of Te Rehutai. It seems there was still a lot more performance available to be tapped.

We know that the boat was a super low drag design in terms of it's foils so not optimised for maneuvers in light air (less than 8-10kn), and also more difficult to sail in any windspeed - but potentially much faster, especially as soon as there was 11-13-15kn or more of wind.

And that is what we saw in the races against Luna Rossa. In less than 10kn, LR were very competitive, in more than 10kn ETNZ started to show improvement. In the couple of races with some breeze in the 13kn range ETNZ were already lit up.

LR were certainly more polished and confident with their boat which helped them a lot.
Whereas it was clear that ETNZ were still getting to grips with Te Aihe and it's different potential modes - and struggling at times.

But ETNZ admitted that - the aim was to design the fastest boat and then it was up to the sailors to manage to sail it, even if that made the sailors job more difficult.

At least they didn't peak too early which was often the case with previous AC attempts.

Hey, hey, hey…

Take this boring ass ACBS to another thread. We are here specifically to hype/bash the AC40 - and enjoy the whingings of dimwits and some Monty Python songs.
