Alinghi Challenge AC37

AM had a good set of designers.  You put soon to be announced AM helmsman Slingsby on Patriot and the removal of TH as a grinder and I suspect you have a different outcome for AM.
AM making it to the Start Line of AC37 is doubtful. If Rumors are true that Ernesto has hired not only Simmer and Holroyd but also Botin & Arrivabene this will be a full blown out disaster for potential American Challengers.

And Tom Slingsby won't be sailing on any of the AC37 Challengers. He was very, very critical of the AC75 Monohulls. He didn't like these Boats, that's why he choose SailGP!

Tom doesn't get an SGP  sponsor and gets a high salary plus bonus for results and has a say in picking the team....

Rumors out of each SailGP event is that TS has a handshake agreement with TH/AM to be on the team assuming the event isn't in the Middle East.

As far as the designers - Botin team designed a boat that could only sail in the upper wind limits and the adjustments they made to the hull after the Christmas Cup made the boat worse.  Not sure what Arrivabene's roll actually was but he doesn't design, sail or build so who cares.  Simmer and Holroyd don't affect AM at all

Let's wait and see what is really in the Protocol next month before we give Tom Slingsby to the Americans, no?

If Burling/Tuke indeed did not resign with ETNZ I can assure you that Grant Dalton will do everything in his Power to prevent these two guys from sailing for another AC Challenger.

That happened actually after the 2003 AC which Alinghi won. Ernesto & Russell were in a Major Spat about the Venue. Ernesto wanted Valencia, Russell wanted Cascais. Coutts quit Alinghi because of that but Bertarelli amended the Protocol and put a clause into it preventing Coutts to be hired by another AC Challenger until the 2007 AC was over.

I could see a similar scenario happening here!

You need to be more smart and reading older stuff before you say Slingsby can be hired by AM :)

Shoebie? he left to be mr sustainability? Keep up will you.

You mean Sir Stephen Tindall (was Chairman of Board ETNZ)

https://emirates-team-new-zealand.americascup.com/en/news/524_SIR-STEPHEN-TINDALL-RETIRES-FROM-EMIRATES-TEAM-NEW-ZEALAND-BOARD.html

Shoebridge is COO (https://emirates-team-new-zealand.americascup.com/en/team/35_KEVIN-SHOEBRIDGE.html) and I would suggest is the person most likely to inheret CEO title if/when GD retires from that position.

Poor Tom. Not ever going to win as helm if he goes with Antique Mistake.

He should say hey to Ernesto. Tom has his own gorgeous and nice blonde, wouldn't poach EB's ladies. Oh wait.....hmmm.

Of course not, you silly.

He could be a defender, but only as ETNZ nr 2.

Or he could even be the sole defender as Alinghi TNZ, for a cool $100 million. But Dalts and Shoebie would still be in charge.
I don't know. The multiple defenders were always from the same club. Couldn't another club challenge in NZ?

No, not a dog walker myself, but I think it says something about a friendly foreign country. Otherwise Dennis Conner would not have needed to loose the cup first for the NYYC, before he could challenge for the San Diego YC.

Porthos or Rennie can tell you the exact wording, or you could look it up yourself.

Anyway, good to see you can engage in a decent conversation, that constant trolling of you and your elk is getting a bit old, if I may say so...

I see EB was on Rambler 88 for yesterdays race.

From EuroSail News #4935

The Rambler 88 crew were particularly on best behavior as sailing with them today was Alinghi Team Principal, Ernesto Bertarelli, with whom many, including Butterworth, won and then defended the America's Cup in 2003 and 2007.
