I have love to hate Alinghi after they tried to sell the cup venue to the highest bidder .

But i totally like what they are doing right now.

I support Alinghi fully.

Yep, Stingray and his little band of conspiracy theorists who said Pete and Blair were going to revolt against Dalts and take a whole lot of crew with them because he was considering SA.

Well I reckon the Kiwis (ie. the great unwashed non-sailors) need to choose either help fund a home defence or shut the fuck up.

As I have said on the forums and the FP (perhaps too many times), if they aren't matching the R&D of the challengers (and that costs real bucks) to produce a quick boat then an underfunded defence on the Huaraki Gulf would likely be the last home AC action New Zealand would see for some considerable time.

If a New Zealand team is struggling to raise funds as defender of "New Zealand's Cup" as PJ called it just what chance would they have or raising funds as just another challenger trying to win it back.

My bet is that Burling & Tuke will have no Involvement in AC37. They have won two times already and they have just announced that they're into SailGP for the long haul.

Running the NZ SailGP Team + Olympics & AC 2024 maybe a little bit too much for them.

Agreed! I said in another Thread Alinghis Entrance has considerably increased the chances of an Offshore Venue.

I think they’d have a great chance of raising funds for a challenge. When you challenge that’s all you are, challenging. There are no other aspects to consider, no TV, no venue, no nothing, just fielding a team and building a boat. That’s why Team NZ have been so good at it. It’s the defence that requires the big bucks.

Fellow Dutchman Max Verstappen is world Champion, first time Holland is word champion, something like Uk winning the cup.
( I Met him once o, not much of a talker, he has his mind on racing)
He practiced his press skills and is improving only slowly. Peter Burling is somewhat more sophisticated, but not much..

Which as I said elsewhere limits what they can help with compared to Merc and Ineos. The latter can use the F1 facilities to construct advanced composite foils etc. Presumably if Red Bull were to construct foils for Alinghi it would contravene the build in country rule.

One of the things Alinghi accomplished is they were cup reformers who wanted to make the cup simplier and understandable for the public. Like the Challenger Of Records?
Only sport in the world who has a rule like that, with so much influence, and that's America's Cup.


Does defending world champion chess Magnus Carlsen change the rules to his likings? No.
Formule 1? one design class racing? No
Cricket? Does the rules ever change? No.
Tennis, does Novack Djokovics changes tournament tennis rules or courts or rackets, No.

Alinghi was sued for trying to get things normal.

No there is a constructed in country rule currently in force from the protocol, it applies to the hull so it depends on wether the foils are included with that, the foil arms are not as they are one design.

@SchakelI know of those agreements but they don't cover foils. I would have thought given their importance they would still need to be national. No?

Could explain why they wanted Defiant that would follow along their design schemes.  It was a very fast boat, just didn't have the lower sail area and volume of NZ and some possible foils control issues.  NZ did lead the ultimate package design, but Defiant lead the way on many performance advantages (foil tip breaking the surface, extreme inverted bow, bat wing, sharp pointed keel line, etc...).   

Not to mention her seemingly unbalanced and virtually uncontrollable, rudder.
