Alinghi Challenge AC37

No there is a constructed in country rule currently in force from the protocol, it applies to the hull so it depends on wether the foils are included with that, the foil arms are not as they are one design.
So partly, I liked the old rule, this one makes it more costly, By the way in the tri-hybrid solution I proposed on the day of te issue of the new rules a way better research result is obtainable from solar  cells gluesd into the denk, Up to Dalts and compagnions to decide. Tri Hybris, the foils are driven from a centrall 60 V battery fueld by:

1. Solar cells in the deck.
2. Shore power.
3. Man grindig.

Best gain is 100 % solar driven up and down foils change.
Green flag when no lurking (shore power) is allowed.
Sir Ben is COR. he can acomplishish that together with Dalts.

@SchakelI know of those agreements but they don't cover foils. I would have thought given their importance they would still need to be national. No?
It's expensive, Alinghi can pay for that,  Dutch challenge can't.
To be more precise, The dutch are not able to finance a 12 year campaign, none of the top earners here see any advantage.

So the Mercedes vs. Red Bull battle continues on the water. Unbelievable.

Unfortunately even as a Mercedes shareholder I now have to support Alinghi/Red Bull. No warm feelings for Ben and the frackers.

Guess we soon can merge the F1 thread into this forum. Christian Horner/Ernesto vs. Toto Wolf/Ben could be fun.

Get ready for some WAR! I don't like the consistent attacks & digs Horner is throwing at Mercedes.

I'll be supporting the Brits over the Swiss.

Any word on who Alinghi will have onboard.? Who their sailing talent will be..?
Some articles are guessing Arnaud (pronounced Arno) Psarofaghis (let's call him AP?) will be on the helm but it's early-days. They have guys from Alinghi's successful GC32 and TF35 programs in the wings, all of them Swiss.

As explained before solar cells on the boat are not feasible for any practical use.

Looks like they've spent the last two weeks getting a logo together that works with their own different shades of red.

Surprising who conceded!

So no Pete and Blair at Alinghi.

You'd think if those guys were involved in any way at Alinghi, Berterelli would have them front and centre.

Looks like Pete and Blair are at least considering ETNZ again.
Pete and Blair have a regatta in Sydney this weekend.

Also, even if he did have them signed up rolling them out in the opening press conference would create quite a fuss.

I see a way for them to quietly work for the team as training consultants for crazy money. And still do sailgp and Olympics.

Which as I said elsewhere limits what they can help with compared to Merc and Ineos. The latter can use the F1 facilities to construct advanced composite foils etc. Presumably if Red Bull were to construct foils for Alinghi it would contravene the build in country rule.
You need to read the Protocol 26 (ii)

It states the HULL needs to be built in country of challange my my reading of it is that the other 'bits' are not covered by this.

(ii) for the avoidance of doubt, the fabrication, acquisition or use of any component, materials or resources used to complete an AC75 Yacht may be sourced without restriction as to their country of origin, place of fabrication, assembly, construction or development, but any such component, materials or resources must nevertheless comply with the AC75 Class Rule;

Good morning all,

Here my notes out of today's presser. It was all rather generic - as expected - but some nuggets may be found.

On stage were:
Pierre Girod, Commodore SNG
Axel Meyer, Vice-Commodore SNG
EB
BB
Hans-Peter Steinacher (Alinghi Red Bull Racing)
Arno Psarofaghis: sailor
Bryan Mettraux: sailor
Slivio Arrivabene (Co-general manager, head of technical operations)
Pierre-Yves Jorand (Co-general manager, head of sports)
Christian Horner via video

- The team will be "Alinghi Red Bull Racing"

- Team will be announced later

Protocol/venue:

- Switzerland is no emerging nation according to the protocol

- EB: Happy if AC in NZ, but ready so sail anywhere

AC37:

- What has caused you to re-enter this time?
Time was not right before, it clicked when EB saw the new AC75 boats racing, saw the potential in technology, fast foiling and match racing; EB met Dietrich Mateschitz, both agreed on partnership

- EB: in the last years they were racing fast foiling boats on lake with new generation of Swiss sailors, team capable to compete at the highest level, plenty of talent in Switzerland

- BB: starting from scratch, but great group, strength of team is in people; Role of BB: support of Alinghi, bring old school into new world

Formula 1:

- Christian Horner: Dietrich Mateschitz made connection, said how can we help Alinghi? Adrian Newey to focus on F1 car, but his tech team will be fully involved; same tools and processes in AC as in F1

- What do you expect to gain from the F1 tie-up?
Technology, strategy, tactics, take F1 DNA and use it on the boat

- Arrivabene: Team w/o F1 support can still win the Cup, ETNZ proved it

The team:

- 120 people on team

- Built facilities and base are installed in Alinghi's historic place in Ecublens

- Psarofaghis: A new SGP involvement is under investigation, training plan for this winter is available but not to be communicated

- BB re. cyclists: There are plenty of cyclists in Switzerland  ;)

- EB: Hope, not to have to use lawyers, (ha... ha... ha, lame question by someone in the room)

- EB: Not talking about budget, but feel well resourced

- EB not on the boat! But on board for training reasons, if required
Thanks heaps.

it would be absolutely wonderful if you could send your methodology on succinctness to T Ehman.
