The boat has been transported to Barcelona and is now in final preparation ahead of the first 20 days of sailing permitted for qualifying new teams under the Protocol governing the America’s Cup for the 37th edition. It will be a big moment for the Alinghi Red Bull Racing Team, for the sailors, for Barcelona the host venue and for the America’s Cup itself.

I still can’t get over the fact that only 20 days of sailing is allowed.

It’s literally like kiwis do not want any competition. It is one of the more complete bullshit rules, ever.

In the wild.
To be fair- most everyone has dg on ignore to maintain some readability of the forum.

I know, that's why I said Oh wait...
Eventually, if most everyone puts most everyone on ignore then we can almost all solely talk to ourselves, like solo sailors.

BTW, Spamray got me on ignore too, so thanks for quoting me.

That's a nicely written article.

So when is the first day of sailing for the rebranded ETNZ boat?
The window opened 4 days ago for Alinghi and by their own reports above it was to be in BCN.

But I can find no anything of activity by them in BCN, even on Port BCN webcams.

It suggests possible base/venue problems. Maybe even legal or 'BCN political' ones? Many of the supposed base locations are used by ongoing maritime businesses.

By MW's article Alinghi's 'Boat Zero' is already there. No activity that I can see at the originally-depicted base locations, maybe they will use an existing facility for the time being, elsewhere in the Port.

Curious to see what if any mods they may have ready for that boat. Hopefully some locals will do 'recon' for us :)

Since they are allowed only 20 sailing days, there's a good chance they will try maximize the usefulness of those days.

Bingo. from June 15 here: https://www-marabierto-eu.translate...tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc&_x_tr_sch=http

Alinghi Red Bull Racing will be the first to arrive in Barcelona according to Mundo Deportivo, citing statements by Pierre-Yves Jorand, technical director of Ernesto Bertarelli's Swiss team. The Swiss ship could start training at the end of June. For this, she already has almost ready a provisional base in the port of Barcelona.

If I was to pay or otherwise-encourage some local (or much more likely someone else encouraged them), or if any of us go take photos ourselves even while they are sailing then: what does that mean for the recon rules?

Running and ducking... but the subject could come up in practical reality for the first time, soon.

Like a Richard Gladwell type person secretly hired by a Team to take photos of TNZ above and beyond what may be available through the centralized recon program(or however the protocol worded it).

The AC police are not going to pull up alongside an inflatable to ask for credentials.

Or flip it - Alinghi bribes the recon person assigned to them to make sure they just so happen to never get a photo of their ________

The Proto applies to Teams, not the public. Therefore, I doubt there would be any legal avenue for a gag.

For sure. I am no professional photographer but like anyone else could easily use even a top-end iPhone for taking varying-angled close-ups of foils and such from inside or near the bases that would be extremely revealing. And there are drone-pro's all over the place looking for cool things to do - that produce good video, speed readings via GPS, etc.

This recon thing may be useful for the 'Sail to Survive' inside-access interviews they will get but dang, the rest of the rules seem a little pointless.
