chrome extension called "bypass paywalls" gets you in.
NZ tech is not a worldclass everywhere on the whole island.

bullcrap. he is eligible for 2 of the 5 teams, he's just 2 cup cycles past his sell by date.
Care to post the article, please?

Hindsight 20/20 it was a bad hire by THutch. However, for the Alinghi sailors to get up and running a little quicker, it is probably a good short-term hire for them. DB with Botin and a handful of former AM shore team - they are not starting from ground zero.

plus they have added Pietro Sibello on the coaching crew. As the losing wing trimmer from the previous cup match, he obviously brings in a lot of knowledge. Was he let go by LRPP as obviously he can't be on the boat for the swiss?

I installed that on Firefox after someone here recommended it. I uninstalled it a few weeks later when Firefox marked it as malware. Whether it is in fact malware, I'm not certain. Just saying.

Disabling Javascript and/or cookies on a website takes 10 seconds and is worth a try.

In all honesty, I wouldn’t say it was a bad hire. AM was a new team, and new teams really need experience in the key roles. He probably wasn’t going to be a winning helmsman, but he was a safe choice for a first time team. At least theoretically that made sense right up until Patriot developed the good old vroom splat syndrome.

So they raided the AM toy box for what were the smallest and fastest foils with a bunch of people that knew how they worked as well as the guy that trimmed the most advanced sail set up. And also got the kiwi boat and it’s blended foil and two arm designs. Decent start I suppose;-)

fun times ahead

And they got a bunch of AM's core design team with Botin moving to there. That's a lot of design knowledge, including about those AM foils.

I wonder if Alinghi has also purchased a design package or two? ETNZ advertises their offering but nothing precludes anyone else from offering something too.

Would another team want to sell its design package to Alinghi? Doubt it.
Perhaps due to potential IP issues Alinghi may want to clear things with AM over what Botin is bringing? Who knows.. Who knows what a ‘design’ package would even include, presumably you’d need the same computational toolset to make sense of whatever the designs are.

BA during a podcast with Shirley R in early May right after the venue announcement made a comment about design packages available to new potential teams France and Spain. He suggested that ETNZ was not the only option.

My guess on where Alinghi will ultimately go to, for their Base.

Why not take two steps to the right, shuffle the containers and stay within the current area?

The Ineos base is on an odd spot, up the canal, but good foot traffic from the shopping centre. The one in Marina 92 (middle bottom) is an odd one too, no need to have the might of the yard at hand as single point for lifting in/out is one regular crane and you're deep in the yard there, powerboat heaven.

The cinema is a superb location for any team - shorter distance for team members traveling to/from their apartments, closeness to the city for sponsors, a better footprint, foot traffic, non-boat traffic/wakes further inside the port. It is a top spot.

MB 92 is inside a working boat yard, dirty/grimy, further distance for team members to travel every day to/from their apartments, a shitty location for sponsors and events and I believe there is a monthly rental payment at this location.

The spot next to where Alinghi currently is is not an easy footprint to work on and 120 team members would rather have a shorter commute to the cinema spot.

The 'Cinema' base you refer to, is it the one I indicated as Alinghi's likely choice? Spanish media included reports recently about that cinema being scheduled for demolition; they were wondering if the AC would hasten that demolition - or else maybe postpone it if an AC Team could somehow modify and make use of it. I ~think~ they were referring to an IMAX cinema, right between the Ineos Base selection and that base next door.

The one you are suggesting Alinghi is taking is the regular cinema in Port Vela. The building is supposedly going to be torn down. The IMAX parking lot is where Ineos is going. The actual IMAX building is not available for teams.

Did some looking around on Google Earth, Instagram and elsewhere. There are more Super Yachts in P Vela than what I have seen anywhere before, even before AC37 kicks in. Hopefully spec boats will be plentiful but they could get crowded out to the Olympic marina up the coast to the right. It’s possible that moorage will, like base locations, get interesting too.
