So even though that was a legacy sail, sailed on a legacy yacht, because they modified it, it counts as one their quota for the final boat. Yes?

Am curious also about what the boomless mod may mean, given that it was a V1 boat. Same with the probable upgrades AM is doing to Patriot.

Not necessarily, any legacy jib can be modified up to 15% (e.g. 85% is immutable) but this repair doesn't necessarily count as a modification because of 4.28:

4.28 For sail skins:
(a) the immutable portion of the component may comprise several disjoint regions divided by modified
material, and these regions are not required to be in the same position or orientation with respect
to each other through the life of the component;
(b) addition or removal of branding or stickers shall not count as replaced area provided the structure
of the sail skin is not significantly altered;
(c) addition of material for repairs or local reinforcement shall not count as replaced area provided the
original sail skin remains; and
(d) replacement of sail skin components such as edge tapes, chafe patches, batten pockets, batten end
patches, webbings and associated block patching for maintenance will not be counted as replaced
sail skin area.
Changes permitted in 4.28 (c) and 4.28 (d) must be no larger than required to address the area that requires
repair, reinforcement or maintenance and shall not modify the global behaviour of the sail.

legacy sails have a 85% immutable quota. So 15% new. But crucially, the 85% that can just be the material, not alignment of said material. So it's possible to have pretty much have totally different sail shapes, just by recycling old cloth.

New material added for repairs doesn't count and nor does reinforcement (TR 4.28).

That applies to modification of new sails, but if I understand 4.5 correctly, a legacy sail can't be modified to a different form at all

4.3 Contains the relevant allow modification to legacy jibs, 85% has to remain "unmodified". Of interest is also 4.14 which states they can build 5 new legacy jibs, but that doesn't apply anything to the repairs, just interesting in terms of limits.

4.14 New Competitors may substitute up to 4 legacy mainsail skins and 5 legacy jib skinsfor equivalent replicas
of legacy sail skins, provided that:
(a) the New Competitor owns a legacy hull with AC36 sail number 1, 2, 3 or 4 (the paired hull);
(b) each new replica sail skin has an identical blank design to a version of a sail skin that was:
(i) launched by a Competitor of AC36; and
(ii) first hoisted on a mast stepped on the paired hull;
(c) each replica skin is only ever hoisted on a mast stepped on the paired hull.

Is that true?
Mainsail skins have 85% of the area immutable

And 4.23 says that such components are controlled against the blueprint of the original.

So changes to shape (including I would have assumed all these changes to clear and tack) would count as changes irrespective if old cloth were used

I was questioning Mozzy's assertion that you could change the shape as much as you wanted if you used old cloth. The corrolary would presumably be you could repair a sail as much as you liked with new cloth if it didn't alter the form against the blueprint

I believe that based on the below (technical regs), which I think is saying you can add modified material between the immutable portions, and that can change the position or orientation of the immutable portions and so change the overall shape:

Thanks. Interesting. So yes, as long as you don't add, change or remove more than 15% you could change the shape quite a lot.
