class 40 Akilaria MK2 in the Sydney Hobart. After 13 hours of racing, they are first in TH (double handed).

Upwind the Sydney 38 was much faster. Sidewinder went east to tack on a close reach, now 5 miles ahead of the Sydney
And then they were one of the first to pull out.  Pity.

Saw the boat at the CYCA, I think it is good looking but I was in a minority of one.

Such a shame to see the Lift 40V2 out the race so early, I think it could have turned some heads amongst the other boats I think it would smoke the 52s on a reach although that probably wouldn’t do the 2H class any favours for a future in the S2H! Next thing you know Matt Allen will have bow width restriction out in place to keep the latest class 40s out and protect his previous trophy

I had been looking forward to seeing how the Class40s would do.  In a reach or run, they would definitely put on a good show against the fleet.   Hard to put an untested boat out in those conditions and expect much different.

Real shame. It was the only boat that had me really motivated to visit the docks this year - I haven't been for a post race dock walk for the first time in over a decade.

Have there been any documented home builds of Class 40s? Or does anyone have any links or boat names for amateur builds? Just curious if anyone has taken on such a big project in their backyard or if it’s just too complex to do well.

That's a good looking boat. I think four more launches to come in the next couple of weeks too!

A Pogo, a Lombard, a Raison and a Bertrand! Plus 11 more in build all to be launched before the RDR.

Do they need to go stealth to attract more attention?  Nevertheless agree that it has a pleasing look to it, but will need to see it sail to get more excited

I did notice that Quequiner, whoever they are, also run a Figaro, and appointed a lady to skipper for this year, and somehow managed to lift her off Zuckerbook:

Sorry, I know, pure drift.
