The Defi is going to be an Interesting update to the information of Boats and Skippers in the opposite direction of weather Influences...the new boats pitted against the old, upwind.
The boats are very powerful and having essentially a shakedown crew to help sort through strength and weaknesses..with a race...!! Its a group that the designers have really slipped into overdrive behind the scenes. The power of computational hours is really the new arms race in the class...even though financial and materials limitations in the build ,...they are costing more exponentially.
Great to see modern tech but also fearful that the arms race is moving quicker than the class can keep up with.. A need for stepping [stones] up from older cheaper boats into newer has been a successful formula...who would have percieved the speeds and power in these designs 5 years ago. The design cycles have really moved ahead..and the technology that follows. all fascinating but ultimately expensive.
I like the idea of the Class 30 now Sunfast Multiplast Carboman VPLP is a One Design as a cheaper feeder class for the many New Shorthanded Racers trying to find a spot in this New area of Sailing.
Lets hope the new influx of Sailors can keep both areas growing as it is all so fascinating.

Mini 650, Pogo 850 Figaro 1,2,and 3s JPK 960 Class 950 take your pick...I feel there is the right intent behind the French UNCL and English RORC and US Storm Trisail Club wit a cheap basic One Design...Figaro 3s were top end for the Figaro series for elite sailors....we need the Glenan approach..

This design project for a 30-foot one-design offshore racer was imagined by UNCL-Racing Division from the Yacht Club de France, the Royal Ocean Racing Club (UK) and the Storm Trysail Club (US), aimed to encourage the discipline, to make sailing more accessible and to train the new generation. The VPLP Design/Multiplast association won the international call for projects “Class 30: Let’s Build the Future” competition.
The Sun Fast 30 One Design, designed by VPLP Design, benefits after intensive studies from a powerful and versatile modern hull (semi scow), adapted to an offshore purpose. Multiplast brings all its cutting-edge expertise to the conception of this one-design monohull down to the smallest detail to offer a seaworthy, well equipped, and accessible boat thanks to its ease of maintenance and limited budget.
Whatever it is , its gotta be cheap to get on the water ....!!
