This is from a post in January  In 'What is it?"

The one Cape is doing is the Etienne Bertrand Design, with Guillaume Dupont

During an intervention on Imagine, the Class 40 Jörg Riechers was going to run the Normandy Channel Race, I had the opportunity to meet with Andrew Thomson of the boat builder Cape Racing. We were able to exchange on a more modern Class 40 idea than Imagine, more powerful, but also simpler and easier and more comfortable to lead it at high speeds. Missioned for a Cape 40 V2, I asked Guillaume Dupond to partner with this project, so that he would add his eyes and technical knowledge to my knowledge and intuitions. Here are some outside views of the Cape 40 V2, which we created together. For the inside we are not revealing anything at this time. Just know that everything is made to make life on board easier.. I was searching for a spirited sailboat that is easily handled, minimalistic interior, reasonable cost and capable. After 12 months of climbing on boats I bought a RC1 Akilaria class 40. #39. Looking forward to having some exciting trips i the ole girl.

Did the exact same, but with a young family opted for a Pogo40 with the shallow draft…interior layout was a much easier sell than the Akilaria!!

As above looks very Kiwi indeed?

No doubt some epic fun will be had. Enjoy!

Good golly.  It has been so long since I have been on SA, I pretty much forgot my password.

Welcome to the Class, Greyhound.  I will ping you directly to get you connected to other North American owners and share the calendar of potential 2022 events.  If you need any help, please reach out.

How much time does it take for class 40 to cross Atlantic ocean? worst and best case
Depends on which course and which boat.

In 2011 there were 3 or four of us who did the NYCC transat.   Very slow, light air race, and it took the Class 40's something like 16 to 19 days.   In the 2015 edition of the same race, but a longer course dictated by ice gates set further south, it took Dragon 11.5 days going DH and we were something like 18+ hours behind the fully crewed Class 40 winner.  To give some context, both of us were faster than the monohull record for that course which had stood for decades until finally being beaten by the bigger monohulls built in the past couple of decades.  I am sure that a scow bow version of the Class40 could trim at least a day off that record.

For the 2018 Route du Rhum, the race was a shit fight against the weather with half of the 54 boat class ducking into port on Day 2 to avoid a series of vicious lows, and virtually all of the rest diving south to the Canaries to get below the weather.  The Class was won by Yoann Richomme in the first scow bow in 16 days and 3 hours.  I finished 12th with 21 days and 3 hours.  The 34th and last Class to finish made it in 31.5 days.
