A question for the veterans:  Apparently, there used to be a North American Class 40 Association.  Does anyone know of such a thing or what passes for such a thing these days?
I honestly don't know where that website came from or who has set that up.  It might have been one of the other NA owners.  Most all of the NA owners are stretched between jobs, families and boats so there is not much time to maintain something like that.  I rep NA on the Class 40 Board, and keep an email group going for the owners as well as aim for as much coordination of the calendar as is possible.  We try to do training camps together when there are several boats in one location for a while.  Its a friendly and good group of people.

Thought this might be interesting

TJV placings vs age date. Always plenty of variables with quality of crew and no account of damage but interesting. Certainly seems that a season with the boat sorts out the issues and crew.

The Mach 40 hung in best of the older boats - 8, 11 & 17

Thank you for the list,

Very interesting.

My feeling was that Redman sailed a very very clever race with perhaps a deeper running kite that let them sail deeper and better vmg for the second half of the race

a bit of clarification:  Tquila (#137 and formerly Manic and prior Narcos), Croatia (#130) and Vicitan (#134) are Mach 40.2s while #145, #151 are Mach 40.3s.  The latter are the same design as #153 (putting aside subsequent bow mods).  In my mind, this makes Tquila's result even more significant.  Mach 40.3s are #144, 145, 151, 153, 155, 156.

Mach 40.3 finishes:  5 (2.5 hrs after 1st), 8, 15, 29, 31

Mach 40.2 finishes: 11, 17, 27

The lift 40, #154 was 6.    All in all, a good showing for the prior gen boats.

I like the class 40 a lot but really wish they would put a minimum height to the cockpit roof .

It would make it an ideal cruiser / racer latter in life without having to spend to many dollars changing the ergonomics .

Anyone know the name/# of the class 40 sitting in Charleston that has been for sale for some time?  I believe it's owned by a French sailor.

The draft might be more of an issue than cabin height for "cruising" use.  The class seems to get away with it though for the lucky people that live where it isn't an issue.

Yea they are deep water boats. I bought my boat recently just for spirited fun cruising with a few short races thrown in. Looking at possible stops heading from Charleston to Annapolis there are plenty of options on the coast and the bay. Pretend you own a 90’ boat and just stop where they stop.
never trusted shallow draft boats 10’ will keep me out of trouble

and short excerpt from interview about design

For the first time a VPLP-designed Class40 crossed the starting line in a race. What’s your take on the performance of Emile Henry-Happyvore (13th)?
Quentin Lucet: This Class40 went into the water a few weeks before the start of the race. She was clearly born under a good sign, because she didn’t suffer any structural issues. We were pleasantly surprised to see Erwan Le Draoulec and skipper Nicolas d’Estais doing so well despite still being in the discovery phase. Speedwise, they held their own against more mature boats. We are happy with the design of the hull. We took the time to analyse the existing fleet, identifying the strong points and disadvantages of the other concepts. The work paid off. The boat amply satisfies our expectations and we can hope for considerable gains in performance by the start of the next Route du Rhum.

class 40 Akilaria MK2 in the Sydney Hobart. After 13 hours of racing, they are first in TH (double handed).

Upwind the Sydney 38 was much faster. Sidewinder went east to tack on a close reach, now 5 miles ahead of the Sydney
