66% of jobs in the US are under $20 per hour. Regardless of how those people choose to spend their money, that kind of wage, for that amount of the population demonstrates an economy that is unsustainable.I'm not criticizing poor people for wanting what everyone else has. I'm criticizing them for prioritizing that over feeding their kids.
And I'm not talking about the "poor". I"m talking about the ALICE's mentioned in your article. Care to answer my question? What is needed to survive in the modern economy? And how many of those ALICE's have made poor choices in how they spend their constrained income? I will need to know that before my sympathy needle moves one way or the other. Thanks.
95% of those without refrigeration spent the fridge money on a new iphone, apparentlyRight about now is the time for Dog to chime in with a stat that 98% of poor people have access to refrigeration, which puts them in the same category as rich people.

This is the reason for the rise of unions. But hey that's socialist can't have that so folks bend over say "Please sir can I have another ass reaming"I work for a Contractor at a Mil-Spec aircraft engine manufacturing plant. If I worked "FOR" the company, instead of for the contractor, I would be making north of 30 bucks an hour, but the contractor only pays 16, which is 10 bucks an hour take home, after taxes, healthcare, and 6% for retirement, because they match it 50%.. Fortunately we have other income, so I am basically just hanging in until next June when I can get Medicare, which my wife already has. It would cost me $700/month to Cobra my insurance, if I quit before then, so it is what it is. But, I have no idea how people can live on 10 bucks take home an hour, if they DON"T have other income????

3.5 % unemployment when most work for shit wages, USA is winniing!!!
Household of 4, 2 of them are kids. The study also drilled down to the county level.
For instance, in Seattle's King County, the annual household survival budget for a family of four (including one infant and one preschooler) in 2016 was nearly $85,000. This would require an hourly wage of $42.46. But in Washington State, only 14% of jobs pay more than $4
Household of 4, 2 of them are kids.
That would mean 2 adults right?
Can't they both work? 85.000 / 42 is only the number of hours of one person, not two.
What am I missing?
Maybe it's different in the U.S. but here on the north pole, both Santa and Mrs. Santa is employed.
Many of these folks are the nation's childcare workers, home health aides, office assistants and store clerks, who work low-paying jobs and have little savings, the study noted. Some 66% of jobs in the US pay less than $20 an hour.

Don't collect FICA on the first 10K of income.Staking out a horrible position means stifling rational approaches by forcing any participants to first justify there is a problem. It’s disingenuous bullshit, but probably somewhat effective.
increasing the min wage is probably a good start, since part of the definition of the problem is that these workers jobs don’t pay enough to get by, but there are legal barriers as well.
Theres got to be systemic reform of fines & penalties such as suspending the license of those unable to pay fines: >40% of those who lose their license also lose their job, so they spiral further into debt.
It is the last sentence in the equation that's important.Household of 4, 2 of them are kids.

What we see on display here is the utter lack of empathy on the Reich . .Troglodytarum said:Every welfare rat I've seen stuffing their shopping carts with two liter bottles of soda, doritos, steaks, etc and paying with EBT doens't exactly qualify as destitute.
Us taxpayers handed out to you a pretty decent K-12 education worth around $ 200K in today's dollars.Troglodytarum said:fuck handouts.
why collect FICA at all?Don't collect FICA on the first 10K of income.
Yeah but see, poor people are stupid and lazy and made bad choices. QED. Never mind that they may have gotten college degrees and their "main job" is working for some white collar mainstream office, and they're juggling another job plus a side gig, and can't afford a new car much less a house.66% of jobs in the US are under $20 per hour.
