Anyone seen the green comet?

We've had several cloudy days, first clear sky tonight, supposedly it's near Capella, meaning way above Orion's "head" if he had one.

Light from gibbous Moon won't help. But 50-degree temp way down south here, is at least merciful for your hands holding the binocs.

I saw it last weekend. A small green smudge visible with binoculars near Polaris. Reminded me of seeing Haleys Comet a few decades ago. Hale Bopp was MUCH better in 1995.

Saw it two nights ago; the star finder app on the Droid was key.

Found it with binos and then got a better view with a 30x spotting scope.

Looked like a small star with just a hint of green. No tail.

Just googled a news item re. the comet. The Mail quoted two paragraphs of how and when to see it.

Followed by five paragraphs from a FeMail (women's section) interview with an "intuitive astrologer" who rambled on about "visions of recession".

I learned that I'll be unlikely to see it (Wet season cloud cover here), and that the Mail regards their female readers as superstitious medieval idiots.

We were doing a Cabo race then. Being far away from light pollution made Hale Bopp look fantastic!

Negative for me too, with midrange binocs aimed near Capella.

We’re all Mooncussers now? I’d been waiting to use that old term.

Foredeck Shuffle

More of a Stoic Cynic, Anarchy Sounds Exhausting
1 ounce bourbon
3/4 ounce Midori liqueur
3/4 ounce Giffard orgeat
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 barspoon honey

Add bourbon, Midori liqueur, Giffard orgeat, lemon juice, and honey and hand blend until honey is dissolved.
Pour into stemmed beer glass or Collins glass over ice.
Garnish with fresh watermelon slice.
Serve with a straw or bamboo pike.

Caught it a couple of times through binoculars, the moon is too bright now for it. Tried with my telescope but it was -20C and things were freezing up. The comet itself was a bit meh, a blurry blob with a hint of green.

Thanks for that, I feel better about not being able to see it, since “it” is apparently underwhelming anyway.
