Atlantic City Race Week

Reporters
After a 20 year hiatus we are proud to be able to bring Atlantic City Race Week back to Atlantic City. Atlantic City Race week began in 1977 and at it's peak over 100 boats from the east coast descended on Atlantic City for a week of competitive racing. This coming July the Ocean City Yacht Club in conjunction with Golden Nugget Casino have planned what should be a competitive racing experience in a superb setting.

The regatta includes an optional feeder race from Ocean City NJ to Atlantic City on July 20th followed by 2 days of ocean racing. Social events include a cocktail party on Friday night and a barbecue dinner on Saturday night with live music each night on the dock at Farley Marina.

We plan on one design racing with Melges 24, J24 and J105s as well as Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker PHRF divisions. We are also open to other classes.

This should be a competitive, fun event and we hope you can join us. Please register as soon as possible. No payment is required until June 2012.

Last I checked a week was 7 days, work week 5. Why do regattas insist on continuing the branding of past regattas while not meeting the original level of content?

Why do regattas insist on continuing the branding of past regattas while not meeting the original level of content?
because it sounds catchier than 'regatta' or 'weekend'. if you have a better descriptor for a regatta that sounds as good as week but is more precise, pass it along so we can start lobbying to get rid of 3-day 'weeks'

How about 'The Charleston Regatta' or 'The Charleston Rally' or 'The Charleston Mid-Winter Rally', insert your own marketing spin after that. From a sponsorship standpoint do you ever get asked the question about a week vs three days?

I say we just lobby our employers to adopt such a liberal use of the word week so we can sail for 4 days and work for 3.

Once you include travel, boat prep, and practice, it's pretty much a week anyways.

Too bad it's so close to Screwpile! I usually need like 4 days to recover from Solomons ... hmm. Sounds hella fun!

I choose this over screwpile. Having some one design fleets and breeze sounds nice. Have drifted in the heat for to many years at screwpile time for something different.

Oh no! Another XXRW for Clean and SA to bitch and moan about hoping against hope it dies a slow death while they scream "I told ya so!" from the back benches (I'd rant more but I feel a...F L I C K...a'cumming on)
