Why don't you just vote in the Greek, Balinese, Majorca elections or what ever other tourist trap you prefer to live in instead of Australia?
It was funny how Meli was talking up how great the Greek island she was going to and certainly implied she was just hanging there with her Greek friends. The reality is that she seems to spend more time elsewhere. Perhaps the Greeks got fed up with her?

Maybe she just got bored with the goats (and men) on the island...

Whatever. I'm hoping she's enjoying her holiday, the local shit here isn't changing.

Is the election over yet? Who lost?

Getting time to head north.

The Greens voted against the Rudd's carbon pollution reduction scheme, which as resulted in an extra 218 million additional tonnes of carbon pollution (as to 2019). Why do you vote for a party that is against reducing carbon emissions?
https://greens.org.au/explainers/cprs

Because it was not well formed policy ?

under the CPRS there would have been no reduction in emissions for 25 years. It gave billions in handouts to coal companies and big polluters
Like the "Carbon Capture and Storage" fiasco currently being touted.

Keep in mind I am ALL FOR direct air carbon capture (tech still in development but several plants running) and from industry but just not this stupid version which has failed worldwide.

Gold - "whereby fossil fuel companies inject donations into the assholes of politicians" -  lol

I really struggle to see the financial doom and gloom projections of moving from a non renewable resource (coal) to investing in tech that has a future.

We get trained people in new fields just as the world ramps up and massive investment will likely occur here.  Australia has a great lineup of strong rule of law, wind, sun and well (generally) educated work force.

Plus as far as export $ coal is only 25% of our mining exports, we could even move the existing workforce to mining other minerals.

I suspect most Aussies don’t understand it.

we should be much more ambitious about phasing out coal power and quite frankly we should be looking at having some nuclear capacity.

We should be way more ambitious with electric vehicles especially as we have no car industry. Aim for 80% electric sales by 20xx, with the remaining 20% to allow sales of 4wd and other vehicles that travel in areas that may never have electric infrastructure

we should still dig up coal to export to help pay for our switch to a low carbon economy. No point not exporting when someone else will fill the gap in the market.

There was a time that London was covered in coal dust.

The average wage was only slightly higher than Panama.
Sir, with all honesty I can say that is one of the worst thought out rebuttals I have ever heard.

I take it you are suggesting that electricity can only be made from burning coal?

Also that since the English didn't go extinct that breathing coal dust/smoke is ok?

Interesting take here on why Kooyong Labor voters should in fact, vote Frydenberg

https://www.news.com.au/national/federal-election/joe-hildebrand-why-labor-voters-in-kooyong-need-to-vote-for-josh-frydenberg/news-story/4a3774b6ce0db2e78c91ea51133ba2d0

what's interesting about that is, while it may appeal to a small minority of Labor voters prepared to accept the long term view presented in order to maintain a more moderate-left leaning LIberal party - i'd be willing to be it appeals to more Liberal voters who are would be happy to see a more moderate-right leaning Liberal party

Hahaha

sad but true
Right?

they'll drown us in solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and batteries before anyone has the nerve to seriously put nuclear on the table.

But if you take fossils out, where other than nuclear are you otherwise going to get high yield, stable baseload power?

that we're entertaining nuclear subs gives some hope. maybe they're the thin edge of the wedge.

What you are really talking about here is energy storage and there are a plethora of grid scale options out there apart from lithium battery.

Not that I am against nuclear at all but build times for a new reactor are in the 5-10 year arena and many billions of $.

We should have built them 30 years ago !
