Yes, came out of Melbourne and dates from the dying days of IMS. Been in NZ 10 years plus but little used in that time. Current owner is a very experienced sailor.

Yep, built like Scavenger, only rough...
I looked after Prowler for a while when Joe moved her up to Sydney back in… 1999?

Most of my time was spent taking the ends off bolts and putting dome nuts on all the through deck fittings - those bunks used to be lethal in a seaway with the protruding bolts.

But there were a couple of wicked rides down the harbour with the yellow Big Bird chicken chute and a slab in while the boat comfortably did 17 or 18 knots. Old mate Greg knows how to draw slippery shapes.

The trolley that was used under the hull was interesting, under spec would be a nice way to describe it!

Scavenger is still sailing in WA so Joe must have done a reasonable job as a boat builder.

There was a kiwi who flew over to help with the laminating so at least one person knew what they were doing.

she is just waiting in a mainsail repair or replacement and will be sailing again shortly.

I found this gem on the weekend, up behind Woolwich (opposite Woodford Bay). Expecting a For Sale sign any day now....

The Clockwork Melges 40 is up for sale in NZ now. So if one is broken, one is sold to Oz (per post above), and one is for sale, the NZ Fast 40 fleet may become a bit smaller.

It's amazing (or maybe not) how many boats have been sinking recently up on Pittwater. Is it all the people how bought boats during Covid now leaving them to rot? There's certainly been a lot less rain recently with the demise of El Nina...

That area around Woodford Bay was described to me (by Maritime) as having “it’s fair share of characters” and the quality of boat there is in line with that… a nice Etchell washed up on the beach a couple of months ago with all the deck hardware courteously removed in preparation for a new owner, looking for a project…

Thats a lot of coin for a 33 footer. The local broker did a good job selling these boats new as the original owners are all selling them. To me they are only any good for offshore short handed racing but bot sure if I would want to be offshore in rough conditions. For club racing they just do not perform to their rating

I think there have been a couple of 3300's that recently were declared winners of club series up in Brisvegas & Sydney(or Pittwater).

Given the issues of getting crew some boats have, what's more competitive, a competive fully crewed boat that is missing a few bodies or a boat designed for 2?

I like that in theory my SF3200 can be happily raced 2 up and extra crew is a bonus.

Yeah they go alright up here. I think keeping them light helps a lot.

Howdy from Wellington! The ex High Anxiety now Rascal Racing Elliott has been going great, she's banging around in Cook strait regularly. Slowly getting a new sail plan sorted loving the boat. Doing the RPNYC offshore series leading on line second on PHRF. Goes way better upwind than I thought it would
