Where I currently work, someone who works less hard and less smart absolutely earns the same as me.

And I don't care, because that's just how it is.

There's no envy. Just an appreciation that some are luckier than others.

And, ideological, I don't think luck is a way to differentiate human beings.

For more insight. While I do earn more than enough to satisfy my needs, I don't work for the money. I continue to turn up for my colleagues, for the clients, and for the satisfaction of doing good work.

I have downsized the house, the boat and drive an old ford.

And I'm pretty fucking happy.
I'll be downsizing to a big shed on a bit of land.

Yes, I have said that working harder and smarter is normally a necessary condition for earning lots of money.
No, I have not said that if you don't have lots of money that it implies you have not worked hard and smart. But I have said that if you have not worked hard and smart, that it is likely that you will have less money than someone who has.

And I have never equated having money with being 'worthy'.
(Having wealth and earning a high income are different things of course)

What I do object to is the politics of envy where people who have worked hard and smart and been lucky enough to generate a higher than average income, are seen as valid targets. And open for abuse for taking more than ones fair share, and seen as being a source for ever increasing tax revenue.

I have no idea what you do or what you earn. But if you saw that someone in the same job as you worked half as hard as you do, what percentage of your take home income do you think they deserve? 100%? 50%? somewhere in between?
(I don't expect you to actually bother to answer this, because that would involve you taking a position, rather than just sniping from the sidelines)
"Earning" being the Operative word.
You are ignoring the huge swathe of people who had serious advantage over others through their wealthy parents by inheritance or private education, or wealthy connections.

Those who have non of the above truely have to work hard and smart to gain wealth.
Some of us are happy to simply have enough and work in lesser paid jobs to make room for other responsibilities.

ETS likely couldn't build a dog kennel and we all know for a fact that Meli can't build anything at all. But somehow that lack of ability isn't their fault either.

FKT
Do you now?

Dunno about Easey, but I dont build things, I repair and restore things.
Maybe if I was a year or two younger I might have been allowed to do woodwork and metalwork instead of sewing, cooking and mothercraft and had to teach myself the finer arts of French Polishing, glazing, soldering and making my own 18th & 19th century stains, waxes and lacquers etc. :R

Oddly enough I have better things to do at the moment than gossip about you behind your backs.
Looks like she ran out of better things to do...

In the last year I've started learning a new language, been studying modern Greek history, stopped smoking and performed in 6 choral concerts.
What have you done except rested a xxxx on that little paunch?

And I bet you don't look this good in a frock. :D

I have. It annoys the hell out of him to have to peep at my posts to insult me and even more to have to peep to look at my responses. He's not in control, I am. :)

I don't actually have to even do that. your posts are but a click away.

I trust Meli doesn't include herself in this group. Buying a tiny rundown shit box from a divorce settlement and going on a budget holiday to Greece isn't exactly 'Wealth'. Well maybe to a Greek it is, but not here in the land of plenty. She would be a lot more wealthy if she hadn't spent $10k a year on lungbusters for the past 30 years. Imagine how much more she would be able to leave her kids if she hadn't been such a weak addicted bogon. And I call bullshit on her giving up smoking drivel. Someone who hasn't the will power to actually ignore someone on a forum would hardly be able to give up the durries. I will bet she hides her smoking from her kids. And also from Athena, Aphrodite, Artemis, Cora and the rest of her imaginary Greek friends as well.

And having to log out every 5 minutes to see what shit we are putting on you is 'Being in control' is it? Are you 'in control' every time you sneak out to light up another Karelia Slim while telling everyone you quit? Are you in control each time you rush to reply to my latest barb?
The only thing you have ever been in control off is the free water jug at the library. You know, at that menial part time job where you go to 'work smarter'.

Sadly, she doesn't have to do that. There's an option where you can have the ignored ones' posts show up as per the old system - no text displayed but the post is there with an option to click on it to reveal content.

I know this because I have randumb and ETS on ignore and occasionally used to click on a randumb post so it displayed. Then I'd downvote it just to annoy him.

But he couldn't see anything I posted without logging out and back in with a different account name.

So the ignore feature is not symmetrical. The advantage lies with the person who added you to their ignore list.

Meli is thick as a broken brick and about as useful. As for giving up smoking, all addicts give up smoking, sometimes once a day. Few can last 2 years though.

Hmm. How often does LB write a response longer that 10 words on this forum?

Actually I see the advantage to me as I don't have to read her shit, unless I choose to for trolling reasons. And with her self control she never disappoints. Like she could ever give up smoking...

Well yes, there is that. I can't say that I miss reading her crap at all. My faith in the intelligence of humanity took a small uptick when her drivel became invisible to me.

All smokers give up smoking regularly. Few can manage to stick at it for 2 years. I'm coming up to my 50th anniversary as a non-smoker after having a pretty serious habit early on. One of the best things I ever did was quit.

Well since you are rushing to reply to me at 230 am your time, I beg to differ.

Discovered this little gem yesterday. No tourists.
Apart from you of course.
BTW how do you 'discover' a old fishing village in Europe's equivalent of Bali?
A bogon tourist drives past a village on a bogon tourist island and then goes on social media to brag about 'discovering' it. If your next step towards being an online influencer is the standard bikini pic in a waterfall, please leave me on ignore.

OK - this makes you a pretty rare individual, but it shows that you are consistant with the views you push here. I haven't met many folks with that level of equanimity.
Me - I want to earn as much as I can for the work that I do so I can have the freedom to do other things.
Congratulations on having achieved something that lots never do - having 'enough'.

(my ford is now 6 years old - does that count as an 'old ford'?)

Shit, I used to quit well paying jobs and take lesser paying ones on a routine basis every time I got bored and/or they promoted me to management. R&D pays shit as a rule but you get to break stuff and learn new things.

Money is only one way of keeping score. Once you've got enough, personal growth and in my case following my curiosity bump to new things was way more important than more money. My trifecta was personal interest, social utility and money basically in that order.

I drive a 20 year old Holden Rodeo 4WD. Last car was pensioned off at 30 years old when it became unfeasible for me to repair and would have cost too much for someone else to do it for me. I don't give a fuck about things like cars etc as long as they work reliably.

And I'd still wipe out negative gearing for rental property owners... either jack up the rents to make a profit else let the property values fall until the income covers the mortgage costs.

So let me see if I've got this right.
Meli has a bunch of us on ignore.
You log out to see what she has posted, then copy it into posts.
Meli takes us all off ignore to respond to us, even though she knows we can't read it.

That is weird.

No wonder we elect politicians who focus on political gameplaying rather than actually trying to govern the country for all.

Yeah, it's just game playing. Kind of entertaining if you've nothing better to do.

Funny thing, if you have code that compiles perfectly for an Arduino mega, then swap to a Uno and recompile the code - it doesn't. So shit slinging here is a way of sending my mind into the zen state letting it figure out why.

And the answer is - a Uno only has one serial port and a mega has 3. So if you refer to port 3 in the code, the compilation fails. Which sort of makes sense but not what I was expecting. I'd expect a run-time error/failure. But it is what it is and I learned something new, so it's all good. Happy now and I'll depart from the shit-pit for a while. Have fun...
