To be fair, Im pretty sure other sports do or have done the same thing.   From recollection, Cricket were found to include anyone who they had deemed had held a bat, so primary school kids in their PE class.

On the licensing thing, cycling have a day pass to race.   I think it's like $15.

The difference between sailing and every other sport is where the Duty of care and responsibility for the safety of the 'Players' lies. With cricket, cycling, football, rowing or darts it lies completely with the club or venue. If someone is injured or killed in a yacht race it lies completely with the boat owner and the Skipper. Rule 3 makes it so and by entering a race this rule forms part of a 'contract' with the OA.

So if someone is killed or injured on your boat during participation in an organised event, your club and AS will run a mile and you are on your own Sunshine. So AS want to claim all people sitting on your boat as 'members' for the purpose of funding and your club want to take the cash, while avoiding any responsibility. This will kill participation. Another great move by AS. They couldn't run a choko vine over an outdoor shithouse.

When I was chairman of sailing at a much loved local club :)   I made this Hitler parody video for the end of season presentation night about the PHS ratings, and ripped the piss out of many of the senior members. All thought it was hilarious and the main target (a past Commodore and very prominent Brisbane businessman) even goose stepped up to podium with a Hitler mo to receive his trophy afterwards.

^^^ Classic LB....a mate of mine (LR) bought Patriot and we sailed her in Melbourne as Moonspinner...even took her to Fiji for some surfing adventures. The "Wolf in sheeps clothing" title that describes her was mine. 'Spinner was then passed on to another mate (Recliner) and reverted to Patriot where my brother still sails on her down here. The J133 is a great boat that can be raced or cruised...And Tony Love certainly knew how to set up and look after a boat. Both LR and Recliner have continued that tradition.

Yeah it was a great boat and Tony certainly loves his boats and his sailing. He was one of RQ's great commodores and a truly good bloke.

News Just In:

Matt Allen has partitioned AS to permanently BAN Mark Hipgrave due to him "speaking out" regarding the legal proceedings.

He was especially ticked off by Hugo Van Krestschmar's comments of support on the GoFundMe page.

It will be interested to see how this plays out especially considering money talks.
