I crewed aboard a 36.7 for several years and didn't especially care for the boat. Apart from a deck layout that drew blood on almost every race, I occasionally got to drive and two things stood out:
1. Either the main was way too big or that big fat stern was pushing too much water but countering weather helm in over 12 kts true was like dragging an anchor.
2. I found it hard to stay in a groove in light stuff. Just no feel for how much rudder is too much. It's not linear in that a small correction gets you nothing and then a little more forces you to overshoot.
Now I'm looking at boats again and, although mostly it will just be my wife and I out tooling around on weekends, my wife and I really, I mean REALLY, can't stand to have another boat in our size range sail past us. For all its faults, the Bene offers a nice cruising package with good performance for its size. The C&C 110 seems to offer similar accommodations and performance figures but I wonder how it sails in comparison. A side by side test sail isn't likely to happen. Anyone out there have experience with the two boats?
I also wonder if the B 40.7 is just a bigger version of the 36.7 or if it's nicer to sail. The PHRF rating is certainly something to take note of.
Appreciate all and any input. I did a search on all the likely forums and found nothing but, if I missed it, I do apologize.
