Any thoughts? How was it launched? How do we know it's Chinese? One of the networks said it wasn't the first one, so I assume the rest were classified (Chinese knew about it, we knew about it, but American people not allowed to know about it). Most importantly, what is it gathering that they can't get from Chinese nationals in the country (cell phone signals), Tik Tok and satellites?

Chinese are saying it is a 'research' balloon which could be about anything. Seems like a pretty primitive device for spying since you can't steer it. Would't spy satellites, which the Chinese have, make a lot more sense.

They don't want to shoot it down over Montana due to risk of property damage. I mean, has anybody in the Pentagon ever been to Montana?
It seems likely we already have captured one or more of these things, and don't have any real curiosity what's in the payload.

I also saw something suggesting some have entered Canadian air space. Anything from Ottawa?
They have stationed a guy with a .303 on top of the Peace Tower, just in case it comes too close.
