You're right, but don't forget that the Trumpublicans did actually take the House, made gains in a bunch of State Houses (including my state, NC) and consolidated near=total sweeps of the redder areas of the country. Deeper division is not good.
The "Red Wave" in 2022 was not as big a ride as the regressives had hoped for, but it gave them a boost they didn't need, which they're using to further extinguish democracy and hope.

Great for TV ratings.I have known a few who worked in NOAA together with UW researchers in Seattle who analyze balloon data from the west coast, it's all for a good cause. There is nothing abnormal about weather balloons no matter how many Dopler, Lidar and other instruments they carry these days.

The best response would have been for some NOAA or University to contact whatever researchers in China who had access to the data collection, so that they could collaborate on some possibly decent wind & weather collection data. A detente, instead of turning it into a beyond-ridiculous 'provocation.'
Biden kept a cool hand but I suppose because of the hysteria it was right to down it off SC and collect the debris to satisfy all the frothing-mouth nutcases. Even if the later cross-Atlantic data could have been useful to meteorologists too.

BTW, if you shoot 25mm cannon shell, 50 cal, or an air-to-air missile over land, all that shit plus the balloon payload is landing SOMEWHERE. Maybe on your house, maybe not. It was smart not to shoot it down over land.
