For sure. But that assumes it was necessary to ever shoot the silly balloon down, they could easily have said 'no big deal' and have just let it keep drifting. It was only the public hysteria that led to the shoot down move, it was detected six weeks ago drifting towards Alaska and, rightly, nobody in the Pentagon gave a f'ck.

The most dangerous part of the 'Spy Balloon' megastory was how Blinken and others used it to up their aggression towards China, while China had their hands up saying 'Oops! We apologize - It was just an errant balloon for Chrissakes.'

I am waiting for the Faithful to tell us the balloon that flew over Texas and Florida, as reported by Fox News (Hey, Dog. Are they credible?), was detected early and they monitored and gathered info from it without the Chinese knowing. So, THAT is why they let it fly over. Even though the defeated ex-President says it didn't happen.

Perfectly understandable why they did that. They were monitoring Hunter flying the fentanyl, he was chief pilot on that lead balloon and giving the flight directions. Durham and Flynn are all over it.

The public drove this. It was visible and people in the north apparently spend more time outside than in the south. Whether we should have ignored it again ceased to matter. Hysteria drove the response, with politicians suggesting people take pot shots. I’m bothered by the fact our government automatically kept it secret. China knew. Why shouldn‘t the American people? It might have avoided much hysteria and saved a missile.

Alternately, we should upgrade our defenses to shoot down balloons before they cross the border.

Dangerously stupid analysis. There is international law governing sovereign air space. China broke that law. It is confirmed surveillance equipment. There is zero excuse for one country to invade airspace of another country. When it happens by China, US, or anyone, it's illegal. It was a navigable balloon. The only conclusion is you and many LWNJs here are Chinese agents. it should have been shot down over the Aluetions. Go send a US weather balloon over China and see what happens.

What would Chinese rules be if the situation was reversed? Til Tok MIGHT be allowed to create a subsidiary with an American majority partner. The NSA would look at all code. The FBI would clone and add spyware to the laptops of any visiting Chinese.

Sure, maybe. But we don't see much evidence of anyone doing this with FB, YT, IG, other big platforms. WTH is 'China' supposed to try do with similar user data that's any different? It's just another online business, in it for advertising dollars.

I have absolutely nothing to hide, from any of them. Can cancel subscriptions at will, block anything at will, there simply is no threat that I can see. If Tik Tok is the latest hit, well I really don't care.

Maybe Oracle will sypher some side money off of the proposed arrangement. And maybe that is whose lobbyists our reps are cratering to. It's basically legalized cronyism here.
