(The Borowitz Report)—Demonstrating his commitment to keeping America secure, former Vice-President Dick Cheney has offered to shoot down all future balloons that venture into U.S. airspace.
“I haven’t touched my hunting rifle in a few years, but handling a gun is like riding a bicycle,” he said. “You just pick it up, and, blammo!”
Cheney said that he was prepared to watch the skies for foreign balloons and, the moment he spots one, “I’ll use my patented hunting technique: aim, squint, fire.”
The former Vice-President said that he was honored to take part in a geopolitical struggle he called the War on Inflatables.

Like any other floating object, if you have a prop and rudders you can turn it and move it forward. Airships can go along fairly well, a big fat round balloon is going to be pretty hard to move very far or very fast.

The balloon first came to the public's attention on February 1, 2023, when former Billings Gazette editor Chase Doak[44] spotted the object above Billings, Montana, after seeing reports that the airspace around Billings was closed. Per wiki, my understanding is fundamentally correct. The military admitted US airspace had been violated only after a former newspaper editor broke the story.

Per wiki, my understanding is fundamentally correct. The military admitted US airspace had been violated only after a former newspaper editor broke the story.
Was mocking the hysteria, that's all.
Many are trying to make this something about a human attacking them (call it 'China'), and in racial terms. Like as if some stereotype was aiming a gun at them, from some secret position with a suspiciously unknown motivation.
It is the NJ's playing on those stereotypes. If you are afraid of me mocking the NJ's, well I am perfectly happy to add you to my short list-of-fools ignore list to relieve you of your angst, unless you (please) just do the same first

You mean like the U2's flying over the USSR and Cuba? Or the SR71 flying over the USSR, Poland, East Germany etc. Or maybe the Global Hawk that flies over Europe and Russia. Or is it just the USA's airspace that is out of bounds?
