Banque Populaire dropping ClaCla

The new skipper could be Nicolas Luven (Clarisse replacement in 2022, and currently on Malizia), wouldn't be a bad candidate for sure !
Luven is boring as shit though. No great media presence, does he even have any videos from the races he's done?

There's more to this story than what is in the press or in folks speculation.

Ethics.

It's her discision to take a child. Makes her not a top atleet.
It's heavy to carry and give birth to a child.

In the end she wouldn't have missed for the the rest of the world.
A child wish is stronger than winning the vendee globe.
Makes her human.
Her husband decided to have a child too. Maybe he should stay home. Which was the plan.

Dipshit.

BP surely did not think about the publicity repercussions..? This is negative press now for them. Is it too late to fix it and reinstate her sponsorship.?

Let’s take a step back and analysis this on the actual facts.

A Company decides to finance a multi million USD/EUR/GBP (choose your poison currency) sports project As to be present in an event.
The company didn’t decide to invest the money just because but because they have some supposedly smart guys in their offices who told them that if they invest X they will get X+5 in return; done deal.

Further more the Company decides to hire a sportsman/woman to execute the project.

As to be able to participate in that event, the sportsman/woman has to participate in Z amount of pre events.

For reasons out of the controle of the Sponsor, the sportsman/woman has been unable (motherhood, injury, psychologically) to participate in the required events as to qualify so far and because of that the multi million project that they are paying for might not be able to participate in the event.

The Sponsor decides to substitute its sportsman/woman with some other who can guarantee them that they will be able to participate in the event.

So …where exactly is there a problem in all of this?

She can still qualify. That was the plan all along.

Old Point:
If men would deliver the children, mankind would have been extinct ages ago..........

point is, she still can qualify.
On BP side i would fire the guy who is responsible for this PR desaster

That is not ethics, THAT is your opinion.

Are you saying that it would be impossible to have a child and then sometime later IN THE FUTURE..participate as an elite athlete? That's some bullshit right there.

"A child wish is stronger than winning the Vendee Globe" WHAT?

Would you say the same things if say Armel and his partner(if he has one) chose to have a child after the last edition?
Why are you arguing with a known idiot? It just makes the thread poluted with his nonsense bullshit.

Banque Unpopulaire, from now on.

What a backwards decision. I hope rhat somewhere in the vast French lawbooks there is a line in there that basically says 'pay a gazillion d'Euros, you moron.'

All the best to Clarisse and her daugther, you will find a better sponsor, I am sure.
I guess there must be more to it.

There must have been some sort of plan/contract for VG24 which included her having a baby. Something must have changed, otherwise this decision would have been taken a long time ago.

I'm guessing further that her partner (who is also a top sailor) https://www.boatsnews.com/story/380...it-of-a-sailor-with-a-well-thought-out-career was taking on the parenting duties whilst she would be away for considerable periods of time.

Either way, it seems like the media PR person wasn't awake as this should all have been sorted in the office.

From what I understand there isn’t any more to this story other than a monumental fuck up by both BP and the VG. Heads will roll.

When the ‘wildcard’ was first announced everyone new it was with this situation in mind. It was even stated in numerous well connected french newspapers!

Yesterday was a dark day for the sport. From what I hear, two skippers have already turned the position to take over the boat and sponsorship down because of the backlash. It’s a sad situation and shows that old white men, still rule the sailing roost.

Clarisse will be back, she can qualify, fuck you BP and while I’m at it fuck you @Schakel, I’m fed up with your constant posting of misinformation and general bullshit.

Press Release from Vendee Globe's twitter (google translate)

La Roche sur Yon, February 2, 2023
The Vendée Globe Organization has just learned that Team Banque Populaire
has chosen to change skipper, on the grounds that Clarisse Crémer's participation
in the next edition is not guaranteed.
Faced with an increasingly attractive race, the Organization had to change its rules
for the 2024 edition. At the general request to publish them very early, they were
unveiled in October 2021 in order to bring the greatest visibility on the rules of
participation for all the contenders and their sponsors, more than 3 years from the
start.
This request was entirely legitimate, the qualification and selection process
taking place over 4 years.
It should also be noted that the general principles of qualification and selection
for the Vendée Globe 2024 were based in particular on reflections and
proposals debated and voted on by the IMOCA Class at the General Assembly in
August 2020.
In order to preserve fairness towards all the contenders for the next Vendée
Globe, the Race Organization cannot afford to change the
rules, when the selection process was already under way.
As for the Wild Card, this is a possibility that was discussed with Team
Banque Populaire and Clarisse Crémer. This cannot be marked before the end of the
selection process, the Vendée Globe not knowing the skippers who could
claim it.
Let's add that at this stage, no skipper is guaranteed to take part in the next
Vendée Globe.
Moreover, it is not certain that the selection process is activated, since
let's remember, it would only be so beyond 40 qualified skippers.
In the letter addressed to Clarisse Crémer, in October 2022, the President of the
Vendée Globe expressed his wish to see her on the Start line on November 10, 2024.
"I reiterate my wish that a sponsor could accompany him in this formidable
adventure", reaffirms Alain Leboeuf, President of the Vendée Globe.

Now it makes a bit more sense.

BP has an old boat. Their skipper needs to qualify with it and enough miles in the bank to get 1 out of 26 starting places not reserved for new boats or the wildcard.
Seems to me like BP looked at the number of miles other candidate already collected and lost confidence in Clarisse. (Clarisse has AFAIK 0 miles so far.) Then probably a decision to replace her with someone that already has some miles in the bank. Cue the ongoing PR disaster.

I think the VG is somewhat right. Why give someone the wildcard so early? It was still possible for Clarisse to qualify on BP and get enough miles to get a starting place the normal way.
