Barcelona AC37

Along those lines, the Host Venue Agreement could be interesting, including about if there will be Spanish oversight about how some of the E70M gets directed, who all makes facilities decisions, who does the audits, etc.

Cataluña in general and Barcelona in particular are probably the most corrupt region in Europe. And I say "probably" because I don't know about the corruption in all of Europe.

And wait till you meet the city mayor...

The article above says 72 - dickhead. 5th paragraph down. Barcelona will have to pay 72 mil in guarantees. When Dalton qoted 200 million it was dollars not Euros. Of which they were prepared to raise 80 themselves.
Real dollars or imaginary 3 for one kiwi dollars.

if you are going to be a pedant at least chose the currency rather than open interpretation there are 20 countries

Australian dollarBrunei dollarCanadian dollarHong Kong dollarJamaican dollarLiberian dollarNamibian dollarNew Taiwan dollarNew Zealand dollarSingapore dollarUnited States dollar,  the list goes on…. which one are we going with?

either way the poor me narrative can fuck off now eh?

So why do you think they have done this when it seems most inhabitants want fewer tourists, not more?

So the articles differ.but even the most optimistic leaves you nz$6m short of the "minimum" needed

https://www.catalannews.com/sports/item/barcelona-to-host-2024-america-s-cup-sailing-race

.....The Catalan business minister, Roger Torrent, confirmed the agreement in an interview with Catalunya Ràdio radio station on Monday morning.....

"The America's Cup is a very important brand," Torrent said. Hosting the event will bring huge return on investment, he added, highlighting the event's high standing, especially in markets such as the United States.

The business minister stressed that hosting the event must be done in a way that benefits "the city and the country" with attention given to environmental and socioeconomic principles and values.

2030 Winter Olympics

Catalonia is also intending to bid for a yet much larger event: the 2030 Winter Olympics. In fact, on Monday morning the Spanish Olympic Committee announced a deal between Catalonia and its neighboring territory Aragon to put forward a bid.

That comes despite some opposition by local organizations, and some tension - now seemingly resolved - between the Catalan and Aragonese administrations. A binding vote on the games will take place this July in six Pyrenean counties.

Congratulations BARCELONA!

I am incredibly satisfied. I've great Memories from my Experience in Valencia 2007 and my hope is that Barcelona will put forward a similar Vision & Show!

“I must acknowledge the absolute commitment of the other final host city candidates, Cork in Ireland, Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Malaga in Spain and all of the phenomenal people that were behind the bids putting in so much effort to illustrate the exciting vision for their cities and for the America’s Cup. But in the end a difficult decision had to be made to select only one.” said Grant Dalton.

Slightly awkward  for those kiwi supporters that were utterly adamant that Jeddah was never in the running, not even considered and purely made up by TE..

come on Four, apologise to the group for being completely and utterly wrong ;-)

I think the Kiwis will get over this. Why? When I was in VLC 2007 I couldn't believe my eyes how many New Zealanders were there to support the Team.
They will apart form the 579 people here...

One more interesting note is that they are talking about an AC Race Window in September-October 2024 which would be after the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

That is a really good choice I think which would allow many of the Sailors competing in Paris to also compete for the AC.

I wonder if Burling & Tuke are now regretting pulling out of the Olympics but it might have been a little bit too much for them.

A September-October Race Window also allows SailGP's Season 4 to be completed without any Delays.

Great choice, loved Valencia in 07 and have been to Barcelona a good few times, nice that it's only a 2 hour flight from here  :D

Valencia was nice but it’s no comparison to the Barcelona waterfront, yes it’s a great ‘choice.’

Having followed the venue saga as closely as anyone here, with a ridiculously prolific number of posts including translations, I can say with some insight that they did get lucky to have any ‘choice’ at all by the deadline, for an event in ‘24. Barcelona had been in various rumors since mid ‘21 but as a supporting effort to Valencia then later Malaga, both of whom fell through. It was only last Friday when the mayor of Barcelona, who had until recently been reluctant about hosting it, signed off. Close call, it was a situation where there was almost no ‘choice’ by March 31, it definitely came down to the wire.

My heart says Auckland but Barcelona will be a great venue for other reasons.
