My brother bought his neighbor's fairly-normal house recently when that guy moved to Arizona, before it went onto the crazy-overpriced housing market here. He made some improvements and it now renting for... $8K per month, unbelievable. An Amazon-employed couple is rattling around in it.
A couple who can afford rent of almost $100k pa are obviously earning ship loads. I guess it's all relative.

Consider this .. the Barcelona port authority and cruise ships

locals hate the herds of cruise ship passengers that invade their world and leave a mess

The port authority loves cruise ships .. huge dockage  fees

politicians love cruise ships because they own all the ship service providers

You already said where you were staying, so we are all planning on crashing at your place. Hope you don't mind. I'll bring beer.
:)  Would be fun for us forumites to hook up! There is a cool-looking restaurant at ground-level, we could flood the place night after night.

For sure but the place is not buyable by most locals when it's earning that kind of money and that's the 'problem.'

A different Amazon couple did actually buy the place down the lake from me, for a ridiculous amount. Funny-money to them, I suppose, but I can easily see this housing-price bubble bursting soon. My real-state taxes are approaching my mortgage payments so there's absolutely no value in the valuation bubble to me.

Yes. We're all waiting for that particular bubble to burst.

If you're buying and selling in the same market, it makes bugger all difference. For those not already on the property ladder, sadly it's getting damn near impossible.

Do you think well be done with COVID-19 by then?
My current guess is Yes. Some recent Barcelona tourist videos, nightlife walkabouts and such, do show some folks wearing masks even outdoors; not sure what the current regs or infection rates there are but mask-wearing looks voluntary. Saw a dang-nice Flamenco stage in a club and she was very maskless :)

I was in Spain three weeks ago and  masks were widespread

I wore  a mask everywhere

I was just in the Caribbean , masks

about the only place masks are absent is the US

General mask mandates are gone now in the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany. I think, in almost all the other EU counties too. Frightening.

I can never figure out all the different rules so  when I travel I always wear the mask and observe how local people behave

The digital vaccine , negative test , passport drives me crazy

the passport is via mobile phone , with check in status txt messages every day , sometimes I’m receiving check in txt messages from three different countries as I travel

And UK. Government goes on about personal choice on risk, which is all very well except masks are at least as much about reducing the risk we cause to others.

It’s a problem everywhere

Smaller ports are particularly hard hit

Venice , Dubrovnik Ibiza ….

One  hour after the cruise ship herd moves Ashore , 4000  passengers simultaneously use a toilet and  the resulting outbound mass of sewage trying to escape the city causes  the  pipeline junctions  to explode … sewage eruptions ,

Didn't those monsters get banned from the Venice waterfront, starting last year?

edit: That city is another example of one having a serious AirBnB problem.

Actually, it took six years - but from next week cruise ships will dock at temporary (?) facilities on the mainland. A permanent solution requires dredging a canal in the lagoon, opening another can of worms

It's not frightening! It is absolutely the right thing to do. Enough of these control freaks like the German Health Minister Lauterbach. Germany doesn't need them.

It's absolutely the right thing to so if you're only thinking of yourself. If you show just the slightest empathy for the immune compromised, the old, the ones who don't want to suffer from long Covid, you'd mandate mask wearing. Yes, probably it's a too big ask for someone as selfish as you.
