If America ever wins the Cup again, I will enjoy, doing a spinray negating all his positive spin.
No Challenger entered will be taking the Cup offshore if they win, no-coast Alinghi excepted of course.

ETNZ too, quite obviously, NZ won't see another Cup (and possibly even a little AC40 event) for the foreseeable future. That bridge got badly burned, torched.

Ducan J's article is a waste of breath.

You didn't address the small hope of America ever winning it again?
AM had a fast boat this last time but given the deign office shakeup this time (Botin to Alinghi for example) who knows? They are saying they will race in this and at least one other campaign after.

To the point though: There is NO WAY that if AM wins the Cup they would hold it anywhere but in America, look at the principals and the YC they represent. While Pensacola did give them some nice breaks that syndicate is not kow-towing to mercenary venue fees and will never need to. We're looking at real American $Billionaires.

The yacht club they represent submitted a protocol to the RNZYS that set a venue plan for future defences no matter who won, for the very reason that you suggest they wouldn't.

That protocol was rejected by both the RNZYS and ETNZ.

Thank God that fool at NYYC got his assed kicked out and is no longer the Commodore.

The commodore submitted this without much input from the club. that commodore was quickly forced to resign this summer.

“Our proposed Protocol for the 37th America’s Cup is the product of months of work and countless conversations with America’s Cup stakeholders, including current and former challengers and defenders,” continues Culver.

Suggesting a future-Defense venue plan was just as dumbass as suggesting the future Yacht Class past AC37. That guy was way out of bounds, as is the AC37 Protocol on the Class subject for any AC38. The proposed dropping of AM in favor of a pot-smoke Canfield-run team was just the icing on the cake. Good riddance.

Obviously the commodore wasn't going it alone.

Whether you like it or not, the NYYC has proved they are more than willing to hold an off shore defense.

And he obviously submitted it without understanding the DoG, which very clearly states that each Challenge is unique and that Challenges are to be dealt with one at a time including any new MC for the current Challenge.

The original writers of the Deed likely had no idea that a real YC would ever, ever set a course away from their YC's race courses. And so they did not make that explicit enough in the verbiage (because, why specify the obvious) but any reasonable reading of the DoG would draw exactly that conclusion, the YC being so central to the DoG.

The RNZYS will go down in AC History, for its blatant abjuration of everything to the team ABNZ's crass commercial interests over that YC's obvious interest, and obvious role. While the YC may not get subjected to any legal challenge, and may win even if it did given the quaint DoG language, this will go down looking really bad in AC History. If you can't Defend it for your Club's country and waters then: why race for it?

Is Comm Young in for a payout? Is he for example financially tied into the AC40's, like with the plan last time for the Youth boats. also Chinese McConaghy-contracted?

And this is the guy Dunphy and Hamish Ross were "negotiating" with behind Daltons back, and you think Dalts is the one to blame for not accepting Dunphy's offer? This "commodore" you've just admitted was a "dumbass"? and you say "good riddance"? Once again, you've put your foot in your mouth.

Duncan Johnstone is likely parroting GD again, this time trying to sell the idea Auckland should pony-up to pay for an ACWS event despite the big middle-finger given to that city. Good luck, I guess.

I bet they have as hard a time trying to find lucrative-enough AC40 venues outside of Auckland as they did to find (by last minute luck, basically) a venue for the AC37 event. The AC40's are no more attractive than TP52s, RC44s, the new Persico's, or any other regatta.

But maybe men in Jeddah (pushed-for in that article too) are really keen to watch the spectacle of women racing, if GD can throw that in? :D

Cagliari would seem a logical spot for an ACWS this time, as with last time, but it seems GD has burnt even that bridge. Malaga could work for a weekend.
They could just put an amendment in the protocol, any team entering must run a home ACWS event.

If the Kiwis defend AC37 then I am willing to bet that INEOS will stay as CoR to ensure the AC75 Class will be maintained provided Ratcliffe still has the money & interest to continue.

The AC37 Protocol stipulates that up to 3 Preliminary Event will be held, 2 in the AC40 Class and the Final ACWS at the Match Venue in the new updated AC75 Version 2 Boats.

That means that Barcelona is certain to get an extra Event probably in August 2024.

The two obvious choices for the AC40 ACWS Events are Jeddah and Malaga with Cork having an outside shot.

However unlike the AC Match Venue itself which was sorely the Decision by the RNZYS/ETNZ the Kiwis will need to get an Agreement from their CoR RYS/INEOS for the ACWS AC40 Events.

And if I were INEOS/RYS/Ratcliffe/Ainslie/Bicket I demand an ACWS in Portsmouth.
