Among the names mentioned here attending the business meeting at the W Barcelona is the President of Telefonica. In a similar article whose link I don't have handy but was about this same shindig, Collboni (deputy mayor) got asked if a Spanish team might be in the works and he acknowledged there had been discussion on this but left it at that. Seeing Telefonica here reminded me of the other article, since they would surely be a potential sponsor.

One thing that Ernesto did was to get some serious tax breaks for teams that would have entered his 2nd defense if he had not fucked up with cnev. If those incentives are still in place it might be enough for a big company to make the decision to sponsor a Spanish entry.

Obviously Telefonica's interest in a Spanish challenge is greatly enhanced by the AC being in Barcelona/Spain. And they know Dalts very well from the Volvo Ocean Race. I can also see Camper coming into the fray, but quite honestly I would rather see that all happening in the TOR instead.

Dalts has always been very good in keeping up with his relationships, and not only the important ones with loads of money, I can tell you.

Good chance those tax breaks are or would be in place. They certainly are in place already for the E40M in private/commercial contribution to the E70M going to ETNZ, that fact has been in many articles.

Am a touch skeptical about any Spanish Challenge but if they did manage some kind of effort then it will of course greatly add interest for the locals in Barcelona; as it did in '07 Valencia too with ESP 97 Desafio.

There have been a few comments about either one or two more Challengers; France is obviously one of them but it'd make good sense if a Spanish one was the other possibility and you'd think the local politicos would love that and Collboni did not dismiss it when he easily could have, the venue deal having been already-done.

wow, taking petty to new lows.
Not sure what your South African/Afikaander english means, I had to google it:

"An example of petty is a person who gets very angry when someone accidentally steps on their foot."

Well, let me tell you I'm not angry, only getting fed up with his overbearing posting.

And  he's not stepping on anybody's foot either, just plain ... , whatever.

Believe me.

Spinbot,

Please take your conspiracy shit about AC37 in BCN somewhere else.
Dg_SailingFRAUD, take your keyboard with its deranged autocratic screeds to another galaxy.

You simply are not a nice person and add no value here, other than clicks for the owners.

I wonder who-all is involved in this? Early version of ACE? from The Sailing America Cup will have a foundation in Barcelona to spread its legacy (www-diariodelpuerto-com.translate.goog)

On the other hand, as explained by the president of the APB, at the moment the organizations “are in full construction of the governance of the Copa América”. To this end, Calvet pointed to the Emirates New Zealand team as an essential element, which is already working on the fifth floor of the World Trade Center and with whom the protocols that will be developed to prepare the land, the bases and the celebration of the event, among others.

The article above is one of several that describe the, umm, complexity of interested organizations wanting a piece of the AC action and decision-making. Given the most recent reference to ACE and the rough relations they had even at home in Auckland, GD answering about Barcelona in the recent SR interview and openly mocking Mayor Goff, it makes one wonder how well they will do in dealing with what looks like an even larger beauracracy ... of Catalanians..
