Rumors are that GD is now trying to get BMW as the AC37 headline sponsor, instead of LV, Prada, Rolex or whoever the big and traditional sailing sponsors are.

Could happen if the others aren't interested.

GD is the only one pushing for an event in Jeddah. Everyone else says no, they won't go. But if GD caves to them then that situation may actually help with his money-press with BMW. Interesting.. he could be getting his arm twisted.

And since I am on a roll on a Sunday eve..

The Womens and Youth events, the WAC and YAC, predicted for in August in BCN? Nobody including GD want to waste time and resources on those; they may be in jeopardy.

ACWS AC40 events could be down to just two, one in late '23 and another in early '24 - but only if in Europe and reasonably close to BCN.

Much of the above suggests that Ineos is staring GD down, with support from the other Challs.

Don't believe anything you hear from @Stingray~ ! There are no Venue Problems.

America's Cup Event Limited is working Full Time from BCN.

Alinghi can't sail in BCN because Boat Zero or Te Aihe isn't there yet. It takes about 2 months to 2 1/2 months or 8-10 Weeks to get an AC75 Race Yacht from Auckland to BCN.

Alinghi is currently competing at the GC32 Series in Lagos and will start sailing Te Aihe in Mid July. That was always been the case.

Ineos fans can downplay the problems but I am hearing there are lots of Barcelona venue problems - buildings need torn down but no permits issued yet to commence demolition, other buildings need vacated, one building is inside a secured port which doesn't help a team that will require large hospitality. Some locations want sky high rent payments, other locations do not. This is just the tip of it.

It sounds like a massive flustercuck that was quickly rushed through without all of the potential base location owners actually in full agreement. Unlike Auckland, each base location has a different owner.

Throw on top that the Port Vella Marina wants to charge over 5 times the normal high season dockage rate from the time the teams arrive through the end of the cup - It isn't sitting well with Matteo De Nora.

Will it all work itself out - yes, but it is a headache for the teams eager to get to Barcelona

Some of this is why France hasn't pulled the trigger - they want to know what base is theirs and if it is a location that is going to charge a ridiculous amount of rent. And they are still waiting on written agreement that no world series events will be held in the Middle East.

Thanks for the insight - that explains a lot!!!

If the F1 can hold an Event in Jeddah & SailGP is holding an Event in Dubai there is no reason the AC can't hold an AC40 World Series Event there.

I don't believe what you say at all!

Until we have cold hard facts backing up your claims what you and Stingray are saying are just Rumors AND baseless Spin Tries!!!

Dalts can hold an AC40 World Series event wherever he wants. BUT if it is in Jeddah I can bet that most, if not, all the challengers file with the arbitration panel for permission to be excused citing safety and security to their team members.

Would be curious to know (but will probably never know) if GD was counting on some lucrative ACWS mega-money-deal in Jeddah before agreeing to the apparently-rushed, last-minute signing with BCN. He has gone out of his way to talk up Jeddah, over and over and over.

If challs are saying they will follow the AP's decision on Jeddah, as opposed to demanding excusal from Jeddah as you say France has done, then those challs may be willing to use the AP as their 'cover' excuse for going to Jeddah if required to. If France does enter before the end of the month, we can expect GD had to give up on the blood-money. If France do not enter, then GD may be rolling the dice on the AP. And it seems obvious the AP will go with the money too, just like an event-promoting FIFA.

My guess is that as part of the BCN Host Venue Agreement, GD gets his base of choice - and for free like in AUK; with bugger-all costs or dates guarantees in writing, about BCN bases for the challs? He likely doesn't care if they get damaged by it all, may even like that.

La Vanguardia, a newspaper in BCN, has suggested they have seen the Host Venue Agreement. But it seems impossible to find despite it surely being a public document, at least for an English typing Google searcher. It may be hosted in a database and so not on the Google radar, hosted at some level of the many govt entities and levels of bureaucracy involved. In SF, Bermuda and Auckland it was all very transparent. Catalonia? Not so much ;)

I do hope it all works out nicely but the suggestions about issues with bases already suggest possible problems, money and legal ones.

I am pretty convinced France will enter regardless if there is an ACWS in Jeddah or not.

Quentin Delapierre & Kevin Peponnet gave up their Olympic Dreams for the America's Cup and Franck Cammas gave up his Gitana gig.

The Deadline for Entries will close on the 31st of July not the 30th of June. Again @Stingray~ got it wrong.

France will not announce until his K-Challenge Team France Team is back from the GC32 Series in Lagos, Portugal this weekend.

Oh and let me guess, Dalton got the best base at the lowest cost. Fuck everyone else.

Dalton is a pimp.

there is no HVA publicly available because it is being negotiated right now. Barcelona has only signed the Host City Appointment Agreement. For Auckland the HVA negotiation took 9 months after signing the HCAA! It can't take that long here, but until September for sure.

Am curious if GD has stepped back and has found a nicely independent CEO for ACE in AC37. His role as CEO of both ETNZ and ACE was, umm, problematic last time!

I know you (and TE and whatever he calls the viewership) have that opinion, but I don't think that it is widely shared outside of that group, despite however much of an issue TE tries to make it out to be.
