Sympathise with you. 1980 wasn't that flash from my POV.I would have competed in the 1992 Olympic Sailing if not for local team politics and the reports of nasty sailing conditions as in this article. Rats in the waters both in Barcelona but not near as nasty as the rats on our Olympic committee. I was pretty sick of both after having earned selection on the Tornado Cat but was not a member of the yacht club which was pulling the strings...

"both teams have opted for bases further around the port..." - I don't think they really had much of a choice. The Italian's took the last base that was "rent free" and the America's took the best of the lousiest.

You don't get it: They don't have to pay unless they have been officially accepted by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron as Official Challenger for AC37!
Thus far there is no indication that they have been accepted.

I do get it. It's time for them to pay up or shut up. They recently attended a competitors call last month among several other things going on behind the scenes. If you want to play it's time to pay.

I understand that you want them to pay or stay quiet.
BUT Rules are Rules mate. Attending a Competitors Call isn't the same as being accepted as Official Challenger for AC37.
The Rules in the AC37 Protocol clearly say that you only have to pay the Entry Fees, Late Entry Fee and Performance Bonds when you have been accepted as Challenger thus K-Challenge, although they attended a Competitors Call, have no obligation to pay any fees.

15.1(a) - a first installment of $1M by wire transfer to ACE is due no later than seven days following written confirmation of acceptance of the challenge.
They are well past 7-days of receiving written confirmation and in breach of the protocol. Stephen is no different than Canfield - all talk, no money.

What are you talking about? Have they been accepted? You say YES and I say NO, they haven't. How do you know they have been accepted?
Just because they took part in a Competitor Meeting Call doesn't automatically mean they have been accepted by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
If they had been accepted surely the Kiwis or the French would have made a Statement already but they haven't which leads me to believe that they are not an Official Challenger.

I'd rather the cup had stayed in New Zealand but this is a good location - a top location actually.
I think it was a practical decision to host the cup here ( in light of the alternative) failing to defend due to lack of funding / resourcing, I applaud it.
To the alchemist and others who have suggested in recent times that dalts is letting the home fans & local marine economy down with the overseas shift, I can only say this
Winning again in this new class of boat can only be good for the local industry.
And as a fan I'd like to see them win again, as do many others I suspect.
It'll prove a high standard of competition
Which will make for excellent viewing.
Which will add value to the AC & its support industries.
... and just quietly ... a win in europe will be ok for many of us.

Yes, could have been said better, I meant to say,while not equivalent to hosting the event, industry will still benefit to the extent of paragraph two, that is to say the media attention on New Zealand and in all likelihood the marine industry And its association with etnz.
