Beginner sailor looking to sail on a Corsair or Dragonfly in the Houston area

Hello everyone,

Real newbie sailor here and new to the forums as well.

I recently took an interest in sailing and have spent a few months learning the ropes. So far I've taken my ASA 101, 103, and 104 and have chartered a few small cruisers (28 and under) in Clear Lake to practice.

My long term plans are to eventually own a trailerable boat, and going through the different options out there I came across the foldable trimarans. I've since had the opportunity to see some Corsairs at a broker, but have never sailed or even seen one in the water.

My hopes are to find someone near the Houston area who wouldn't mind having me tag along on their next outing, or be willing to do a short charter for me so I can see how these things sail.

Thanks!

Wish you luck! Just a word of caution – Corsairs can be quite powered up. Some people fast-track into powered up sailing. Some people take a more moderate route.

Just know you'll be hopping on the back of a tiger.

That's what I'm hoping for.

My very first sailing experience was on a dinghy in the UK and I really enjoyed the speed, but am looking for something with more space and cruising potential. On paper these fit the bill, just really hoping to experience it first hand before diving into it.

Sour, you might also post your ask on the Farrier / Corsair "F-boats" forum. https://FCT.groups.io/g/main
Over there it's a very active group of owners who often give introductory rides. I know there are folks over in Austin and down in Kemah who've done it.
Respect the tiger and she is forgiving. Push the tiger and she may flip over & bite you :)
Learn from experienced Corsair or Dragonfly drivers and you'll be fine. And fast.

Pm me your contact and I’ll get you in touch with some multihull sailors in Kemah. The will def get you out on an F boat.

Thanks for the suggestions about the forum, I'll reach out over there as well.

usa169, I'll send you a PM. I do most of my charters out of Kemah so I'm familiar with the Clear Lake area.

I'm a little less cautious. I bought the F242 based on years of racing as crew in beer cans on a keelboat. I felt that there was no way I would want to have to have 4 or 5 other people with me each time I took my toy out to play with it.
