It is time to get planning to come out and race!

The 2009 Beneteau First 36.7 North American Championship will be held at Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit this year and it is scheduled for August 26-30 - www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=229

With 16 boats already signed up, you don't want to miss this one! With a couple of new boats already added to the fleet in Detroit this year, the usual big turn out from this fleet in the last couple of years (47 in Buffalo in '07, 33 in Chicago in '08) and with the large fleet numbers in the Great Lakes, this should be another huge event for the class. We are still expecting 40+ boats on the line and would not want to miss you there!

The economy hasn't been easy but but that hasn't stopped us yet! We already have some great support from Beneteau, Doyle Sailmakers a rum and a beer sponsor and with a few other things in the works, this is going to be another great event. If anyone willing to help with sponsorship, know a sponsor or wants to support this event, drop me a line.

We are also looking for charter boats so if you cannot make it out this year and is willing to charter your boat, let me know and I'll help get the word out.

Get the word out! It is going to be another great event, great racing and parties as usual. Heck, this is Bayview! We always have great parties!

Hey Goovy, don't disappoint me! Texas has much bigger cars that the Prius! And if you're planning on hooking your 36.7 to yours and driving up, you might as well start now or you're not going to make it on time.

On the other hand, to make it easier for you, Latis Yachting has put together a transportation package for the event so save yourself the drive and call them up:

Special event transport rates are round-trip and include commercial insurance and all permits. Prices subject to fuel surcharge in the event of significant price change. If city of origin is not listed, contact Latis for a quote. Latis also offers full boat set-up, pack-up, and rigging services; click on www.latisyachtingsolutions.com for more information.

Chicago: $1,800.00

Buffalo/Rochester: $2,800.00

Annapolis: $3,800.00

New York/Stamford: $4,500.00

From all other areas, contact Latis Yachting directly for a quote.

Looks like 33 boats registered so far. Extended wx forecast is calling for 3 of 4 racing days under full sun with temps in mid-70s, 10 kts wind. Should be a great regatta. Wish we could be there. Best of luck to all of you... have fun!

See you at the NAs next year in Annapolis.

Sailski,

I believe the plan is to host the 2010 NAs after the Annapolis Sail and Power Boat Shows which happen Columbus Day Weekend and the next weekend. That would put it about the 3rd week in October. The notion is to attract boats for the NAs that would stay for the IRC East Coast Championships the first weekend in November, winter over in Annapolis, and then race the Annapolis NOOD Regatta at the end of April. For those boats that come in by truck from the North, that should be appealling. For the boats that would come over their own bottoms from the Northeast/New England, I , personally, wouldn't want to be making a delivery offshore along the coast of NJ in October.

We've been doing the NJ to Annapolis delivery for the past 6 years for the IMS/IRC regatta, and it really is not as bad as you make it out to be. If my memory serves me correct, we've pushed delivery off one week one year, and a few hours another year and thats about it.

That's good to hear. And, thanks for putting it into perspective, BB. I guess it's like making any offshore trip... picking a good wx window is key.
