Surprised the Young Rocket 780 hasn't been mentioned too.

We slept a crew of 4 on an Elliott 780 for a week at Hammo one year. The faster speed of the 780 and larger cockpit (with boom tent) more than makes up for the extra headroom forward on a 7.4

Not a fan of Etchells in the slightest!

Rocket 780 would be great too, but I haven't seen many come on the market in recent times

Ha. One night was the overnight race. Then I actually ended up in the staff quarters as the week progressed with one of the Barefoot Bar staff. She was far nicer than a wet kite.

if you really don,t want to scare the shit out of your family while sailing don't touch elliotts or ross or clubman. too expensive anyway. a more sedate ride is a noelex, apart from  that trimarans, but again too expensive.

Are all E780s made the same?  Aside from the model differences, and mk1/mk2, are they all of a decent build quality?  This one doesn't have any race pedigree so am a little wary...
Nah, check out the Elliott 780 facebook page, there's a huge diversity in construction from carbon to wood. I've never heard of a 'bad' one though.

I'm with Rodlaser on this one. Torsten have you had a sail on an Elliot yet. They can be a handful. if racing you do need a good experienced crew and that can be the biggest issue. Their is a reason Noelex 25's are considered the premier trailer sailer in OZ for a racer cruiser.

For cruising I was planning to run smaller headies and a pin top/cut down main, whilst racing would be with experienced crew.

Not a fan of the Noelex, either in looks or performance.  I want a boat that looks good, has the the option of being able to go fast(er), and not be stuck with a generic trailer sailer.  Surely there are other boats out there that fit the criteria?!

Any trailer yacht should be thought of as a big dinghy, no matter whether it is a Noelex, Ross or Elliott.

That is, where your bodies are when sailing is critical for safety and enjoyment and sheet trim will kill or enhance the experience.

If Torsten is comfortable sailing any dinghy - Laser or Hobie, any TY can be mananged.

A Noelex will scare the shit out of your car !

all the elliots mentioned are very well balanced and easy to sail . And you can’t beat open transoms and wide cockpits for cruising .

Looks good in the ad.  For the price, can't help thinking there is something not obvious there.

And a boat that light ... 1995, Mmmmm.  Yep that's what it would be worth, less than half a good Ross 780.
I agree, it looks great

As you are on the Sunshine Coast, and travelling interstate, (and getting back home), is a shitfight at the moment, have you had a look at this Lidgard 26, ad says its in Mooloolaba..

Yeah looks good, am waiting to hear back on it.  Seems almost too well priced?

There seems to be a few very different Lidgard 26 models out there, anyone know more about these ones?

depending on your desired cross over between sport boat and family cruiser / mini yacht.  Have a look at the Masrm 720, Sonata 6.7 or Sonata 760 sport.  Basically trailerable versions of successful late 80s JOG boats and can punch above their weight when well sailed.
